How did you integrate

technologies software, Amber Farheen

Media Studies AS
hardware and online in
this project?
Online:
Weebly:
During this entire project, the most used online
website was weebly.com, where I created my
blog. Obviously, this became the most important
part of the entire procedure, because this not only
contained my research, but also was where I
would keep all our plans and document ideas and,
as well as the evidence that we had behind every
shoot. Researching allowed me to view the
various different examples of film openings and
analyzing them allowed more ideas and an insight
as to what they should be like. The blog also
pushed me to meet deadlines and also to format
my ideas and rough work in order to be put up as
evidence and planning. Because this was my first
time creating a website it gave me exposure and
allowed me to explore different options and to
personalize it according to my liking.
Online:
Google:
Google was also used very commonly not
only during my research, but also for the
tiniest details and ideas. For instance, the
mood-board I created consisted only of
pictures that I had collected from Google.
As well as this, because we used my
camera and SD card in the shoot, in order
to send the shots to my teammates, I used
Google Drive.
Online:
YouTube:
YouTube was used very often during the
entire process. Whether it was research,
planning or production. I used a lot of
the videos from YouTube in my blog in
the research. Also, in order to find ideas
for our own story, a lot of time was spent
watching different short films, film
openings, etc, as well as tutorials in
order to understand properly what we
should aim for and attempt to convey in
our own project.
Online:
Outlook:
We had divided the work of the planning etc
between us and gave credits to one another
in the end. After completing each assigned
task, we emailed it to each-other. This
allowed us to keep the best possible image
quality and the specific task was then easily
found on our laptops, instead of mobile
phones.
Online:
WhatsApp:
Since the very beginning, the three of us spent
a lot of time discussing our story and sharing
ideas over WhatsApp. Each tiny update, every
piece of evidence (bts pictures) was instantly
forwarded in the group. This also included
reminders before shoots, tasks being assigned,
etc. We also shared a WhatsApp group with
the entire Media Studies class, which included
our teacher. Here, he gave us deadlines,
reminders and instructions. The survey we
made was also sent out in different groups and
shared amongst our friends through
WhatsApp.
Online:
SurveyMonkey:
Here, we created our survey and later
gathered our results. Creating a survey
allowed us to view what kind of audience
we had and what sort of genre they liked
to watch. We received 15 responses,
which helped us decide which genre our
own film opening should belong to.
Software:
Adobe Premier Pro:
Before this project, the only video editing I
had done was perhaps on a collage maker
app on my phone, which was simply adding
a filter and combining two/three videos
together. Initially, we were planning on
using Hitfilms Express on a friend’s
recommendation, however, neither Laiba
nor I could get it to install on our laptops.
We then chose this software which was
pretty easy to use and after exploring
through the visible options, I had pretty
much gotten the hang of it.
Software:
Microsoft Powerpoint:
I used Microsoft to create powerpoint
presentations such as this one. Powerpoint is
a software that I have been using for as long
as I can remember, so there wasn’t much
learning here. This has always been a very
easy and effective platform to create
slideshows and to present your work on.
Software:
Microsoft Word:
Like Powerpoint, Word is also a software
that I had been using for a very long
time. Most of the planning of the film
opening was done here, including the
summary and the shot-list.
Hardware:
Camera:
First and foremost was obviously the
camera that was used to shoot our
project. We used my Canon EOS 100D,
the lens EFS 18-135mm, its battery,
charger and SONY’s 32GB SD card. This
camera was initially bought by my
brother for his personal use, which was
just occasional personal photoshoots.
Personally, I didn’t have much
experience with using a camera, besides
the one in my mobile phone, let alone,
shooting a film opening. This gave me
both experience and the platform to
experiment different angles on and ideas
on.
Hardware:
Laptop:
My laptop was also very important
throughout the project. This was
where I stored all the shots we took,
after transferring them from the SD
card and also sent them further to
my teammates. As well as this, my
blog was made on my laptop. My
research and ideas were all found on
the internet, after spending hours
sitting on the laptop.
Hardware:
Mobile:
My iPhone X was constantly in use
during the entire project. Constantly
talking to my teammates, taking
pictures, watching videos on
YouTube, listening to music while
working on my blog.
