P5

Powerpoint = Nearly

You need to have animations/timings on text and images - each bullet point
to come in individually.
Some of your slides contain large amounts of text. Put main body text in to

DIFFERENT GRAPHIC
speaker notes, then convert main text to short bullet points – ask me for
guidance if unsure.

IMAGES
RASTER FILES
• Consist of a grid of pixels.
• Each pixel is assigned a certain colour

The limitations to raster files are that they;

• Can be very large in size if not compressed.

• Can lose a good amount of its quality if it’s compressed in a lossy
format.
• Pixels will be apparently visible and make the quality of the image
appear poor if expanded.

Commonly used in;

• Medical images such as MRI scans

• Large majority of video games
JPEG FILES

• contains lossy and compressed raster files.

• Does not lose too much of the quality
• Saves a lot of storage on the device it is saved to.

The limitations to JPEG files are that;

• Does not support layered images

• Can only support 8 bit images

Usually used for storing images for digital cameras as they can
support up to 16,777,216 colours.
GIF FILES

• Saves raster in a lossless format.

• Common for images that contain text.
• Can be animated which means they can be used on websites and advertisements.

The limitations of GIF files are;

• Contains a limited amount of colours, 256 colours in total.

• Cannot edit a GIF file once it has been saved.
• Image quality is reduced if WIFI connection is poor.

commonly used in;

• Social media websites in the form of memes and

animations.
• Advertisements to promote companies.
PNG FILES
• PNG files stand for Portable Network Graphic.

Limitations of PNG files are;

• Can generate a large file size.

• Not all web browsers can support the file type.

Mainly used to create logos as they’re easier for

placing on other solid images.
TIFF FILES
• Stores raster images.
• Supports both lossy and lossless compression.
• Support multiple layers and pages.

The main limitation of TIFF files are;

• Very large in comparison to other file formats

• Most emails can’t load the images
•Applications and websites can’t open the TIFF files

Used for high quality photography from high resolution

cameras.
BMP FILES
• Contain raster graphics.
• Normally uncompressed or compressed with a lossless compression format.
• Can store two-dimensional images with both monochrome and colour.
• Various Colour Depths and data compression formats are supported.
• Mainly used in the Windows platform.
• Full compatibility on Paint Shop Pro.

The limitation is that they do not scale well

BMP files are mainly used for high quality scans.

VECTOR FILES
• Use 2D points, which connect lines and curves to form polygons and other shapes.
• Each point has a position on the x- and y-axis.

A limitation of vector images are;

• Processing needs to be performed by powerful PC’s.

• Slows down image rendering if the files are high
quality

Vector files are commonly used for logo designs,

illustrations and print layouts.
SVG FILES
• Simple text files that describe lines, curves, shapes and colours.
• Easily understood and modified,
• Code can be changed and rewritten using CSS or JavaScript.
• Gives a flexibility that can’t be matched by traditional PNG, GIF or JPEG files.

The limitation of SVG files are that they

• Can’t support much detail.

•Can't display as much detail as standard image
formats.

SVG files are ideal for;

• Standard illustration
• Graphs charts and maps
EPS FILES

• Vector based file format.

• Stands for Encapsulated PostScript.
• Can contain text as well as graphics.
• Usually contains a bitmap version of the image for easy viewing
rather than using the vector instructions to draw the image.

The limitations of EPS files are that you need to have adobe
to create the image.

Used commonly for large banners and signs.

AI FILES
• Vector based files as they are simple text files that describe lines, curves, shapes and
colours.
• Represents single-page vector-based drawings in either the EPS or PDF formats.
• Used by Adobe Illustrator.

The limitations of AI files are that they

offer a limited support for raster images.

Used for logos and printing media such as

magazines and newspapers.
PDF FILES
• Stores an image as separate objects which contains raw binary data.
• Has all the elements of printed documents as an electronic image

The limitations of PDF files are;

• Certain operating systems can use them

• Scanned PDF are less flexible and editable as
native PDF’s.

Used for documents such as magazine articles,

brochures, and flyers.
