■ It is Davao City’s biggest and grandest festival ■ The term “Kadayawan” is derived from the Mandaya word “madayaw”, a greeting used to explain a thing that is good, valuable, superior, or beautiful ■ It is a week-long celebration that serves as a thanksgiving for nature’s harvest that attracts tourists to the streets of the city to witness major events such as the Indak-Indak sa Dalan and Floral Float Parade. VISUAL ARTS REGION 11 ELENITA DUMLAO ■ One of the most highly regarded living artists in Davao ■ Her unique vision brings Davao art that stimulates the viewer’s imagination and gets people to wonder. ■ The only Asian artist who made it to the 10th International Women’s Exhibit in Majdanpek, Serbia in 2013. ■ She is currently the artistic director of a multi- awarded cultural company based in Davao City. “The Traveller” Medium: Ink wash on print 33 x 47 inches “Moon Ritual” Medium: Acrylic and print on Canvas 34 x 46 inches VICTOR “BONG” ESPINOSA ■ Mentored by his loving father, the late commercial art and sign painter Mr. Pedro “Pete” Espinosa ■ He was able to maximize and advance his potentials by joining several art workshops and winning art contests back in high school at Holy Cross of Davao College. ■ He represented Mindanao along with another artist in an NCCA “Art Manila ‘97” Event and in 2000, he was there again for a national art contest.
