DEFINITION.

Recruitment refers to the process of searching for


prospective employees and stimulating and
encouraging them to apply for the job.
( Flippo EB, 1980).

Recruitment is a process to discover the sources of


manpower to meet the requirement of the staffing
schedule and to employ effective measures for
attracting that manpower in adequate numbers to
facilitate effective selection of an effective
working force.
( Yoder d, et al 1972).
Barber (1998) “ defines employee recruitment
as practice and activities carried on by an
organization for the purpose of identifying
and attracting potential employee.”

Jovanovic ( 2004) said recruitment is a process


of attracting a pool of high quality applicants
so as to select best among them.
According to Costello ( 2006) recruitment is
described as the set of activities and process
used to legally obtain a sufficient number of
qualified people at the right place and time
so that people and organization can select
each others in their own best short and long
term interests.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RECRUITMENT.

1.Fairness.
- Everyone involved in recruitment
and selection of staff has a
responsibility to ensure that
candidates are treated fairly and
decision are made objectively.
2.To reduce the risk and the management
-If the selection is not done properly employee
may be mistaken which leads to loss to the
organization. As it waste to the time of human
resource as well as the time spent on the
selection process.
3.Placing right people to right post.
studies have shown that to be a high
performing organization, human resource
management must be able to assist the
organization to place right people to the right
post by using the most appropriate, efficient,
fair, open and effective methods.

TYPES OF RECRUITMENT.

Two types.
1. Direct recruitment.
 Includes recruitment of new employees.

Under this method scouting, manned exhibits


and waiting list are used.

Scouting- the representative of the orgnization


are sent to educational and training
institution where they establish contact
with the candidate seeking jobs.
Manned exhibits- sending recruiters to
seminars and convention where they can
establish contact with their mobile office to
go to desired centers to have direct contact
with the job seeker.

Waiting list- candidates who have indicated


their interest in jobs in person through mail
over phone.
2. Indirect recruitment.
-Includes departmental promotion i.e.
promotion from one department to another as
a head.
For example: promotion of teacher as
principal.
