Lesson 8
Proper Waste Disposal
According to the Properties
of Each Material

ZION JOY V. SANTERO

Old Sagay Elementary School
Objective:
Demonstrate proper
disposal of waste according
to its properties.
Let’s Recall
What are the effects of
exposure to decaying waste on
the environment and to our
health?
Answer: It will cause
pollution and make people
to sick.
Let’s Recall
What can you do help lessen
these effects to man?

Answer: Practice multi-F’s recycling

scheme which is factory returnable,
fertilizers, feed, fermentable, fuel, fine
crafts, and fig materials or the 5Rs
(Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair and Rot)
Presentation
Have you gone to hospitals and
markets?

What are the waste materials

commonly found in hospitals?

What common wastes can you

find in markets?
Materials needed:
 Leaves  Candy wrappers
 Soft drinks can  Empty boxes
 Juice wrappers  Styro cups
 Plastics bags  paper
 Disposable diaper
Standards for Group Activity
 Cooperate with your group
 Share your ideas with your group
 Stay focused on task
 Talk softly not to disturb other groups.
 Raise your hand if you have
questions.
Station 1-
Hospital
Station 2-
Market
Station 3-
School
What to do?

 1. Go to your assigned station.

2. Identify the kind of materials in your
station.
3. List the materials in your science
notebook.
4. Group the materials according to the
following properties: biodegradable,
recyclable, and/or combustible.
What to do?

 5. Use the sacks in your station to place

the waste materials.
6. In your science notebook, list the steps
to be followed in disposing the waste
materials in your assigned station.
7. Prepare a group presentation on
proper waste segregation to be
performed in class.

10. What did you learn in this activity

Proper disposal of human waste
is important to avoid pollution of
water sources.
Disposal must be done to avoid
harming the environment or causing
harm to human health.
Waste should never be disposed
down sinks, drains, lavatories,
ditches, near wildlife or ponds.
Products for disposal should not be
mixed together and containers should
be clearly labeled.
Separate materials into bio-degradable
and non-biodegradable.
BIODEGRADABLE MATERIALS are
materials which decay such as
leaves,paper and twigs
NON-BIODEGRADABLE
are materials or substances that do not
undergo decay such as plastic and metal.
RECYCLE some of the non-
biodegradable materials.
 Make a compost out of decaying
materials.
Compost are waste materials that
are recycled as fertilizer
