Motivation
● There is an increased pressure on renewable energy resources like solar and
wind.
● Softwares like MATLAB does not provide real time results so, a real time
simulator like Typhoon HIL is required.
Introduction
● The output of a conventional two level inverter contains a lot of harmonics
therefore multilevel inverters (MLI) are preferred.
● CHB based MLI has many applications since it requires lesser number of
components as compared to other topologies.
● In this paper, Typhoon HIL is used to model CHB based nine level inverter.
Description of MLI
● MLI primarily consists of DC voltage
sources, switching devices and a control
circuit for the desired switching.
● For a nine-level output, one complete cycle is divided into eighteen parts.
● From the widget library in the monitoring section insert Digital Display.
● Here, we are interested to see THD. So, Probe namely THD is selected.

3 7 12 3 16.98
4 9 16 4 15.61
Conclusion
● The modelling and analysis of CHB based nine level inverter is done in
Typhoon hil simulator.
● CHB topology was chosen because of its superiority over other topologies.
● The comparison between different levels, number of switches, number of
voltage sources and THD is also drawn.
● Typhoon HIL was used for simulation purpose and hence the obtained
results are real-time results.
