Broad Outline

Disposal of waste tyre rubber is one of the
major concerns for all over the world. With the
increase of automobiles in India from past few
years the demand of tyres has gone up very
high. As we know light weight concrete is
widely used on various architectural works. In
India more than 33 million vehicles use roads
from 2007 to 2010, about 80 million tyres have
hit the roads - these include two, three, four
and six wheelers. We are using this waste as a
useful replacement in concrete.

Abstract

Our project is based on replacement of the fine
aggregate and cincrease strength with crumb rubber.
The discarding of waste tyres is serious concern all
over the world as it causes environmental problems.
Our main aim was to utilize the waste tyre rubber
chips in concrete as a partial replacement instead of
coarse aggregate. The use of waste tyre rubber chips
in concrete makes it economical and moreover it
becomes environmental friendly. The strength of
concrete with partial replacement of waste tyre rubber
chips at various percentages had been investigated.
Compression and split tensile tests were carried out
for three different percentages of rubber chips.

Introduction
• typical tyre contains 24-28% of carbon black, 40-

48% of natural rubber and 24- 36% of synthetic rubber
including styrene butadiene rubbers (SBR) and butyl
rubber (BR), which all are ingredient used for tyre
manufacturing. Worldwide more than 981 million tires
are thrown away each and every year and even less
than 7% are recycled, 11% are burned for fuel, and 5%
are exported. The remaining 77% are sent to landfills,
stockpiled, or illegally dumped. That's almost 765
million old tires are wasted every year across the
world.

Aim

Use of stone in building construction is traditional in
the places where it is produced, through its high cost
imposes limitations on its use. Stone has been used
in the construction of most of the important
structures since prehistoric age. Most of the forts
world over, the TAJ MAHAL of India, the famous
pyramids of Egypt and the Great Wall of China are few
examples. However, cement and bricks manufacturing
process will contribute to a high emission of carbon
dioxide (CO2) which may lead to global warming.
Therefore, objective of this paper is to find an
alternative solution to reduce this environmental
problem.

Scope

Concrete is a widely used construction material
consisting of cementing material, fine
aggregate, coarse aggregate and required quantity of
water, where the fine aggregate is usually natural
sand. The use of sand in construction results in
excessive sand mining which is objectionable. We can
replace this aggregate and find another optimal
solution.

investigational study will be conducted to examine the
prospective of using tire chips and crumb rubber as
an aggregate in Portland cement concrete. It is
assumed that cement acting as a binder mixed with
crumb rubber make concrete blocks more flexible and
thus, provides smoothness to the surface. At the
same time it also provides sufficient strength or
minimum required strength to the concrete

Perfect study will be done after the test carried out on

Conclusion
•• Rubber replacing concrete can be used in light
weight concrete as it decreases the density of the
concrete.
• Compressive strength of the concrete
decreases as increase in replacement of rubber chips.
• From the literature review and experimental
studies it is concluded that despite of decrease in
strength of concrete there is a very high demand of
concrete so it can be used as a partial replacement.
• In India there is a very few tyre recycle
industries despite of 36 tyre manufacturers. So, there
is need to increase in tyre recycle industry.
• Light weight rubber concrete can be used for
the architectural use.

Experimental Study on Enhanced Crumb Rubber Concrete
Article (PDF Available) in International Journal of Scientific
and Engineering Research 9(2):1240-1247 · February 2018
It's very important for environmental issue to use disposal of
waste tires. Rubber from waste tires used for partial replacement
of fine aggregate in traditional concrete, the resulting product
called crumb rubber concrete (CRC). Concrete mixes containing
waste crumb rubber untreated/treated with replacement
percentages (3% and 6%) of fine aggregate were studied and
those mixes were compared with traditional concrete mix to
investigate the behavior of untreated CRC and optimized treated
CRC. It's worth to be mention that, chemical agent succeeded to
treat and increase the bonding chain between crumb rubber and
concrete.

(IRJET) Volume: 05 Issue: 04 | Apr-2018
The increase of about three crores discarded tyre each year
poses a potential threat to the environment. .The best way to
overcome this problem is to find alternate aggregates for
construction. Most processes that incorporate crumb rubber as
an asphalt modifier use particles ranging in size from 0.6 mm to
0.15 mm (No. 30 to No. 100 sieve),20% replacement of fine
aggregate and 5% replacement of the total mixture exhibited
acceptable properties for practical applications. Research
project aimsto provide in this project have aimed to study the
effectiveness of rubber as substitute for fine aggregate and
utilize the crumb rubber tyres in concrete, to minimize global
warming. NAME

About one crore 10 lakhs all types of new vehicles are added
each year to the Indian roads. The increase of about three crores
discarded tyres each year poses a potential threat to the
environment. The best way to overcome this problem is to find
alternate aggregates for construction. The proposed work
presents an experimental study of effect of use of solid waste
material (crumb rubber) in concrete by volume variation of crumb
rubber. Crumb rubber usually consists of particles ranging in size
from 4.75 mm (No.4 sieve) to less than 0.075 mm (No. 200
sieve). Most processes that incorporate crumb rubber as an
asphalt modifier use particles ranging in size from 0.6 mm to

Effect
• of Crumb Rubber Material on Concrete Mix,Er.
Bhupinder Singh, International Journal of Science and
Research (IJSR) 2015
The term concrete mix design may be defined as the process of
selecting suitable ingredients for construction of concrete and to
determine their relative amounts with an objective to produce a
concrete mix having the required, strength, workability, and durability
in as economical manner as possible. The plastic and the hardened
states are the two states governing the proportioning of ingredient of
the concrete mix. If the concrete (in plastic state) is not workable it
becomes difficult to be properly placed and compacted. Therefore, the
property of workability becomes of vital importance. The present work
is based on the effect of addition of rubber crumbs on Portland cement
concrete. The present study is based on studying the effects of
replacement of 5% and 10% of coarse aggregates by rubber crumbs
on Portland cement concrete.

Concrete is most widely used building material in the world, as
well as the largest user of natural resources with annual
consumption of 12.6 billion tons. Basically it consists of
aggregates which are bonded together by cement and water.
The major part of concrete besides the cement is the aggregate.
Aggregate include sand and crushed stone / Gravel. Use of
these conventional materials in concrete is likely to deplete the
resources unless there is a suitable substitute.
