There are 9 parts of speech:
1. Noun
A noun is a naming word. It names a person, place,
thing, idea, living creature, quality, or action.
In a sentence it functions as Subject and Object.
Examples: programmer, theatre, box, thought, tree,
kindness, arrival.
2. Verb
A verb is a word which describes an action (doing
something) or a state (condition). Linking verbs, action
verbs, and helping verbs . It functions as Predicate in a
sentence.
Examples: is, were, am, walk, talk, think, believe, live,
like, want, can, must, get, become, etc.
3. Adjective
An adjective is a word that describes a noun. It tells you
something about the noun.
Examples: big, yellow, thin, amazing, beautiful, quick,
important.
4. Adverb
An adverb is a word which usually describes a verb.
1. It tells you how something is done.
2.It may also tell you when or where something happened.
3.It may come before an adjective.
Examples: slowly, attentively, really, well, yesterday,
tomorrow, here, everywhere, in the campus.
5. Pronoun
A pronoun is used instead of a noun, to avoid
repeating the noun.
Examples: I, you, he, she, it, we, they
6.Conjunction
A conjunction joins two words, phrases or sentences
together.
Examples: but, so, and, because, or, etc.
7. Preposition
A preposition usually comes before a noun, pronoun or
noun phrase. It joins the noun to some other part of
the sentence.
Examples: on, in, by, with, under, through, at
8. Interjection
An interjection is an unusual kind of word, because it
often stands alone. Interjections are words which
express emotion or surprise, and they are usually
followed by exclamation marks.
Examples: Ouch!, Hello!, Hurray!, Oh no!, Gee!
9. Article
An article is used to introduce a noun.
Examples: the, a, an, some, many, etc.
Adjectives ending in –ing (Ind: me-) and –ed:
1. Boring 1. Bored
2. Interesting 2. Interested
3. Surprising 3. Surprised
4. Disappointing 4. Disappointed
5. Tiring 5. Tired
6. Exciting 6. Excited
7. Disgusting 7. Disgusted
8. Amazing 8. Amazed
9. Worrying 9. Worried
10. etc 10. etc
