THE IMPORTANCE OF ECO-
LABELING (WHY)
1. Informing consumer choice
 With the aid of eco-labeling, customers will be more informed about the advantages of certain products,
such as, recycled paper or toxic-free cleaning agent. This can encourage people to choose a better product
which is more compatible with environmental objectives rather than choosing products which are harmful to
the environment. It is also promotes energy efficiency, waste minimization and product stewardship.
2. Promoting economic efficiency
 Eco-labeling cost lower than the regulatory controls. By allowing customers and manufacturers to make
environmentally supportive decisions, the need for regulation is kept to a minimum. This can bring benefits
to both government and industry.
3. Stimulating market development
 As customers keep choosing eco-labeled product, there will be changes in supply and demand in
marketplace. So, this will create a greater environmental awareness among manufacturers and people.
4. Encouraging continuous improvement
 A dynamic market for eco-labeled products encourages manufacturers to increase the productivity of
products that are less harmful to environment. The environmental impacts of products decrease over time
as people are more aware about the environment.
5. Promoting certification
 An environmental certification program shows that a product meets a certain eco-label standard. It act as
visible evidence of the product's desirability from an environmental perspective. Certification play as an
educational role for costumers. It is also will encourage the manufacturers to re-engineer products so that
they are less harmful to the environment as products with prominent logo stands out more readily on store
shelves.
6. Assisting in monitoring
 With the aid of eco-labeling, customers and manufacturers can easily monitored the environmental claim .It
is easier to observe the validity of a claim and to report if the claim appear to be suspicious.
