SAFETY OF THE ENVIRONMENT:NOISE

AND HEARING
 INTRODUCTION

•Ergonomics is a continuous process designed to create a high level of comfort

within the workplace.Related topics stressed by global ergonomists and
practitioners include the increase of work-related musculoskeletal
disorders(WRMSDs) among workers; the role of ergonomics discipline in
workplace designs; and ergonomics intervention programmes in the
workplace.According to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and
Health(NIOSH) chairman,Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye,reported cases musculoskeletal
Disorder(MSD) have been increasing in this country since 2008(Yee,2012).
• The number of MSD-related accidents increased from 14 cases in 2006 to 517
cases in 2013.The following table shows the number of occupational MSD cases
reported to the Social Security Organization (SOCSO) from 2009 to 2013.

• Ergonomics(or human factor) is the scientific discipline concerned with the

understanding of interactions among humans and other elements of a system and
the profession applies theory,principles,data and methods to design in order to
optimize human well-being and overall system perfomance(IEA,2014).In this
chapter,we will learn that ergonomics help to integrate things that interact with
people,in terms of people's abilities,limitations and needs.In other
words,ergonomics involve fitting the tasks to the person.

3.0 SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT

• The worker must wearing ear cover to make sure their did
not hearing problem.
• The employee must make sure the noise of workplace are
suitable with the workers to make sure they did not get
hearing problem.
