student.

3) To determine the relationship between the student attitude an influence toward their spending
amount.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

2) Does the female student spend more than male student?

3) Does student’s attitude give an influence toward their spending amount?

H0: There is no significant between factor
(attitude & source funding) and their
spending amount.

LITERATURE REVIEW
Student Attitude based on Spending Amount

• Attitudes play a vital role in determining a person’s spending habit in financial issue. (Joo and Grable,
2010; Porter and Garman, 2013; Roberts and Jones, 2011; Shim et al., 2015).
• Attitude derived from an individual’s beliefs and values are the main determinant of intention to act a
certain habit.
• Attitudes influence the development of financial well-being (Roberts and Jones, 2011), and contribute
to predict financial test (Dowling et al., 2014; Shim et al., 2015).
• The differences in male and female attitude may result in differences in spending amount. (Lim et
al.,2013)
Linking Gender and Financial Literacy based on the Spending Amount
• Student’s gender and their literacy have difference and it was proved by few researches. (Chen &
Volpe, 2014), (Peng et al. ,2013) and (Volpe et al.,2011).
• They carried out the research before, found that male scored are better in financial literacy than
female.
• However, (Ibrahim et al,2009) found the different finding and his found that there is no difference
between the level of financial knowledge between males and female’s students.
• Additional research is needed to examine the extent to which marital status, family income, amount
money received of each semester, student attitude and financial literacy affect students’ spending
amount to draw the conclusion of this research.
Financial Literacy based on Spending Amount
• Financial literacy is important for student to have the idea of controlling spending habit/ amount and
become a significant variable in financial prudence (Leila Falahati, 2012).
• . (Peng et al.,2007) found that student with higher levels of financial literacy made good spending
decision in hypothetical circumstances.
• There will be less default rate on their student loan debt (Laily Hj. Paim,, 2012), if students have the
idea of managing their money.
• Previous research, there is considerable to prove that many university students not enough sufficient
knowledge to manage their personal finances effectively (Mohamad FazliSabri ; Christine ;
Gudmunson, 2012).

- We select only 357 students as our respondents.

- This study is using Sample size table with 95% of confidence level (margin of error of 0.05)
SAMPLING DESIGN

• Used Convenience Sampling technique to draw the sample.

• We take questionnaires were considered for the data analysis because of the
50 respondent incompletion of questionnaires.
• There were 92 males and 215 female students included in the sample.
• . The participants for this research were full-time students in university.
• The selected respondents are selected randomly.
