IS FOOD AN ENTERTAINMENT?
Eating habits, nutrition and the level of physical activity not only affect health in the present, but also
determine the risk of future chronic food-related illnesses.
The purpose of this study was to identify the perception of healthy eating, and the association between
eating habits, state Nutritional, and level of physical activity in 9-11 year old schoolchildren of the CEDID
City College Bolívar, Headquarters D, Bogotá. The study was of an analytical cross-sectional type, the
study population It consisted of 86 children, under the informed consent of the parents. It has been made
nutritional assessment by BMI, the perception of healthy eating was evaluated, and the practice of physical
activity, applying a questionnaire to children, and eating habits were evaluated by consumption frequency
survey applied to mothers. The results showed that the 17.4% of the children were overweight and for (T /
E) 29% at risk of stunting. The level of physical activity evaluated with the IPAQ questionnaire
determined that 88.4% of children are irregularly active, (do physical activity less than 4 times a week and
<60 min), and 64% spend <2 hours / day watching TV. Low fruit consumption was found associated with a
inadequate nutritional status, however it was not associated with the consumption of other foods, no
association was found between nutritional status and time spent watching tv, nor between nutritional status
with the perception of healthy eating. In the last decades, the transition in the change of eating behavior in
the world has had an impact on the development of chronic non-communicable diseases (CNCDs),
especially in developing countries, with an incidence of appearance at an early age. Obesity is considered a
disease of great magnitude in public health, as a consequence of an unhealthy diet and an increase in
sedentary activities. In the world context, the changes expressed in the diet of the general population have
been characterized by a consumption of foods with high energy density, low consumption of fruits,
vegetables, grains and cereals, whole grains, legumes and a parallel increase in the consumption of foods
rich in saturated fat, sugar, addition of salt, refined cereals and processed foods, accompanied by physical
inactivity.
