WHAT IS PMAY URBAN?
• Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Mission was launched on 25th June 2015.
• It Intends to provide housing for all in urban areas by year 2022.
• The Mission provides Central Assistance to the implementing agencies.
• As per PMAY(U) guidelines, the size of a house for Economically Weaker Section (EWS)
could be up to 30 sq. mt. carpet area.
• PMAY has made a mandatory provision for the female head of the family to be the
owner or co-owner of the dwelling unit under this mission

COVERAGE AND DURATION
• All 4041 statutory towns as per Census 2011 with focus on 500 Class I cities
would be covered in three phases as follows:
1. Phase I (April 2015 - March 2017) to cover 100 Cities selected from
States/UTs as per their willingness.
2. Phase II (April 2017 - March 2019) to cover additional 200 Cities
3. Phase III (April 2019 - March 2022) to cover all other remaining Cities.

• The mission will support construction of houses up to 30 square meter


carpet area with basic civic infrastructure. 

• The minimum size of houses constructed under the mission under each
component should conform to the standards provided in National
Building Code (NBC).

• The houses constructed/acquired with central assistance under the


mission should be in the name of the female head of the household or
in the joint name of the male head of the household and his wife, and
only in cases when there is no adult female member in the family, the
dwelling unit/house can be in the name of male member of the
household.
To ensure more number of people depending on their income,
finance and availability of land through following four options:

(A) “In-situ” Slum Redevelopment (ISSR)


(B) Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS)
(C) Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP)
(D) Beneficiary-led individual house
