Internet Defines Communication as:
• The imparting or exchanging of information by speaking,
writing, or using some other medium.

• Communication is the act of


conveying meanings from
one entity or group to another
through the use of mutually
understood signs, symbols,
and semiotic rules. 
Communication and its Importance
Every business organization needs effective communication,
both internally and externally. Communication is the process
of Sending and Receiving Messages.
a) Internal Communication: Refers to communication
within an organization i.e. with co-workers and supervisors
etc.
b) External Communication: Refers to communication with
entities outside the organization i.e. customers, suppliers,
vendors, agents, journalists, analysts, advisors,
government agencies, competitors, investors etc.
What is meant by Effective Communication?
Effective means “successful in producing a desired or intended result”.
Effective communication is defined as verbal speech or other methods of
relaying information that get a point across. An example of effective
communication is when you talk in clear and simple terms.

forms of communication. You should develop the communication
carefully in order to achieve effective communication.
◦All communications are designed to have a purpose whether written
or spoken, verbal or non-verbal. Effective communication skills
enables you to deal the situations clearly.

words and making the communication relevant to the target
audience.

Skills: Reading, Writing, Listening and
Speaking.
These four skills help to create contexts in which to
use the language for exchange of real information.
It shows the speakers own ability as a seasoned
communicator.
It is important for building confidence when doing
any business dealings.
Importance of Four Skills
◦Important to develop interpersonal skills while doing
teamwork.
◦Interpersonal skills encompass the verbal and non-verbal
aspects of a message. You should be able to communicate
with other people under different circumstances.
◦It is a must to know how to handle various situations being
a good communicator.
◦Effective communication cannot be achieved without
mastering these four skills.

1. Ethical Communication
◦Ethical communication includes all relevant information,
is true in every sense and not deceptive in any way.

2. Audience Centered Approach
Audience-centered communication is a type of communication where
a speaker analyzes the audience to determine the content, language usage
and listener expectations. It allows effective communication because
the speaker can tailor messages to the needs of the listener.

“Etiquette”, the expected
norms of behavior in a
particular situation.
Netiquette is short for
"Internet etiquette." Just like
etiquette is a code of polite
behavior in
society, netiquette is a code of
good behavior on the Internet. 

"Netiquette“ simply means the


use of good manners in online
communication such as e-mail,
forums, blogs, and social
networking sites to name a few. 
3. Improving your Intercultural
Sensitivity
Intercultural communication is the verbal and
nonverbal interaction between people from
different cultural backgrounds. There are three
main issues which are at the root of
the problem of intercultural miscommunication:
1. Language as a barrier
2. Cultural diversity
3. Ethnocentrism

like faxes, text messages, email,

technology.
