In the Steve Jobs biography,

Jobs told Walter Isaacson he
was “on one of my fruitarian
diets” and had just come
back from an apple farm,
and thought the name
sounded “fun, spirited and
not intimidating.”
 Android is a Linux based mobile device operating system
developed by the Open Handset Alliance led
by Google.
Apparently, Android OS did come before iOS or iPhone, but it wasn't
called that and was in its rudimentary form.

Furthermore the first true Android device, the HTC Dream

,came almost one year (22 October 2008) after the release of the
first iPhone.
 GEOGRAPHY DISTRIBUTION

 Android has a more market share in developing nations like Asia and
Africa
 iOS leads the market in developed countries like US, Australia, Europe
