EXPLANATION TEXT
Definition And Purpose (Definisi dan tujuan)
Explanation Text is a text which tells processes relating to forming of natural, social, scientific and cultu
ral phenomena.

Generic Structure (Struktur Generik)

• General statement; Stating the phenomenon issue which are to be explained.
• Sequenced explanation; Stating a series of steps which explain the phenomena.
• Clossing; Atually this is not mentioned in explanation text, however many people think that the paragr
aph is clossing, in which it is actually part of sequenced explanation.
Namun, banyak orang be
tan.
Example OF Explanation Text
Tsunami

The term of “tsunami” comes from japan which means hearbor (“t
su”) and wave (“nami”). A tsunami is a series of wave generated when w
ater in a lake or the sea is rapidly displaced on a massive scale.
A Tsunami can be generated when the sea floor abruptly deform
s and vertically displaces the overlying water. Such large vertical move
ments of the earth’s crust can occur at plate boundaries. Subduction o
f earthquakes are particulacy effective in generating tsunamis, and oc
cur where denser oceanic plates slip under continental plates.
Tsunami always bring great damage. Most of the damage is caused
by huge mass of water behind the initial wave front, as the height of t
he sea keeps rising fast and floods powerfully into the coastal area.
Generic Sturcture Of Example

General statement (Pernyataan umum):

The term of “tsunami” comes from japan which means hearbo

r (“tsu”) and wave (“nami”).
Sequenced explanation (Penjelasan berurutan) :
A Tsunami can be generated when the sea floor abruptly deforms an
d vertically displaces the overlying water. Such large vertical moveme
nts of the earth’s crust can occur at plate boundaries. Subduction of
earthquakes are particulacy effective in generating tsunamis, and occ
ur where denser oceanic plates slip under continental plates.
Clossing (Penutupan):
Tsunami always bring great damage. Most of the damage is c
aused by huge mass of water behind the initial wave front, a
s the height of the sea keeps rising fast and floods powerfu
lly into the coastal area.
Tsunami selalu membawa kerusakan besar.
