Q-13 Vivek invests Rs. 4,500 in 8%, Rs.10 shares at Rs. 15. He sells the shares when the price rises to Rs.
30, and invests the proceeds in 12% Rs. 100 shares at Rs. 125. Calculate; i) The sale proceeds ii) The
number of Rs. 125 shares he buys; iii) The change in his annual income from dividend.
Q-14 Michael buys shares of face value $ 50 of a company which pays 10 % dividend. At what price did
he buy each share from the market if his profit is 16 % on his investment?
Q-15 Michael has a choice to invest in 10-dollar shares of two firms at $ 13 or at $ 16. If the first firm pays
5% dividend and the second firm pays 6% dividend per annum, find:
(ii) if Michael invests equally in both the firms and the difference between the return from them is $
30. Find how much, in all, does he invest.
Q-16 William has the option of investing his money in 8% $ 10 shares at a premium of $ 3.50 or 7% $ 100
shares at a premium of 20%. Which of the two investments will be more profitable for him?
Q-17 4. Daniel invests $ 1344 in buying shares of face value $ 24 selling at 12% premium. The dividend
on the shares is 15% per annum. Calculate

largest and one-fifth of the smallest is at least 3.
Find the roots
• An employer finds that if he increased the weekly wages of each worker by Rs 5 and employs five
workers less, he increases his weekly wage bill from Rs 3,150 to Rs 3,250. Taking the original weekly
wage of each worker as Rs x; obtain an equation in x and then solve it to find the weekly wages of
each worker.
• The expression 2x3 + ax2 + bx - 2 leaves remainder 7 and 0 when divided by 2x - 3 and x + 2
respectively. Calculate the values of a and b.
• If (x - 2) is a factor of the expression 2x 3 + ax2 + bx - 14 and when the expression is divided by (x - 3), it
leaves a remainder 52, find the values of a and b
• Using the Remainder Theorem, factorise the expression 3x 3 + 10x2 + x - 6. Hence, solve the equation
3x3 + 10x2 + x - 6 = 0.
• Given that x - 2 and x + 1 are factors of f(x) = x 3 + 3x2 + ax + b; calculate the values of a and b. Hence,
find all the factors of f(x).
• Use the Remainder Theorem to factorise the following expression:
• 2x3 + x2 - 13x + 6
• When divided by x - 3 the polynomials x 3 - px2 + x + 6 and 2x3 - x2 - (p + 3) x - 6 leave the same
remainder. Find the value of 'p'
