(Republic act 4373) said that A social worker is a
practitioner who by accepted standards of training and
Social work professional experiences, possesses the
skill to achieve the objectives
As defined and set by the social work profession
through the use of basic methods of casework, group
work and community organization.
ROLE, FUNCTION AND COMPETENCIES OF SOCIAL

Roles and function of social workers

Social work is an active profession with a waide array


of responsibilities in the areas of caring, curing and
changing.

Mendoza (2002) INTERVENTIVE ROLES

Compton and Galaway (1994), Mendoza(1998)and


Schneiderman(1974) as cited in mendoza.
The interventive role roles include resource broker , social broker,
mediator, advocate, enabler and counselor/therapist.
•Resource Broker
This role is about the direct provision of material aid no
other resources that will be helpful in reducing
situational deficiencies.
•Social Broker
this role involves a process of negotiating *service jungle*
for clients .
•Mediator
This role includes acting as intermediary or conciliator
between person or groups.
•Advocate
This role involves taking a partisan interest in the client
•Enabler
This role is about activities that the social worker engage in
order to help their clients.
•Counselor/Therapist
This role intends to restore, maintain, or enhance the
clients capacity to adapt his/her current reality.
