Infinit-I Primer 2019

Introduction

Infinit-I is the IT Consulting and Data Analytics Club of IIM Indore. Our mission is to help the
student community of the institute build their knowledge on the latest developments in the industry. We strive
for the same through the following activities spread across the academic year:
• Monthly online IT magazine to give you the latest updates in the world of technology.
• National-level data analytics event, Techtronix
• Institute-level case-based competitions, IgnITe(for PGP1) and Bring IT On(for PGP1 and PGP2)
• Workshops which help in developing industry-relevant skills for the students
• Regularly update the batches about IT events organized in other institutes

Big Data Analytics

Big Data: The 5 V’s of Big Data:

It is a term for the large and complex data, both
structured and unstructured. The data that gets
accumulated on a daily basis in business operations
can be best utilized to improve decision making with
analytics in a wide realm of activities. Such strategies
that are backed by data could dramatically shift the
way decisions are made in an organization.
Role of big data analytics:
Faster and efficient way to analyse data implies
companies can make more informed decisions by
enabling data scientists, predictive modellers and
other analytics professionals to analyse large
volumes of transactional data as well as other forms
of data that are untapped by traditional business
intelligence (BI) systems. The data could range from
web server logs, internet clickstream data, social
media content to mobile phone call detail records and
machine data captured by sensors.

Big Data Analytics

What big data analytics adds to a business?

Currently, 2.7 zettabytes of information is available over the internet. The importance of big data
does not involve around how much data a company has but how a company utilizes the collected data.
● Cost Savings : Some tools of Big Data like Hadoop and Cloud-Based Analytics can bring cost
advantages to business by identifying more efficient ways of doing business.
● Time Reductions :The high speed of tools like Hadoop and in-memory analytics can easily identify new
sources of data which help businesses to analyze data immediately and make quick decisions based on
the learnings.
● New Product Development : By finding the trends of customer needs and satisfaction through analytics
firms can create products according to the needs of customers, get a better understanding of market
conditions and get ahead of competition.
● Control online reputation: Big data tools can do sentiment analysis. Therefore, firms can get
information on who is saying what about the company. This helps them to monitor and improve the
online presence of their business.

Big Data Tools used: Apache Hadoop, Spark, Cassandra, MapReduce , Pig Latin, NOSQL, Hive, Presto

Enterprise software

What is an Enterprise System?

Enterprise software system is used to satisfy the
requirements of an organization instead of individual
users. It helps to integrate all the functions of an
organisation under a single system.
An ERP system doesn't invariably eliminate
inefficiencies inside the business. The corporate has to
rethink the means it's organized, or else you will find
yourself with incompatible technology.

What are the services provided by an enterprise

system?
Some of the common services rendered by enterprise
applications are automated billing systems,payment
processing, email marketing systems, content
management, call center and customer support, etc.

Examples of ERP systems in the market

Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle e-Business Suite, SAGE,
SAP Business One, Infor Global Solutions, NetERP
from NetSuite, Lawson Software.

Enterprise software
Key ERP modules
Human Resource Management, Sales and Distribution, Finance and Accounting, Manufacturing and
Procurement, Material/Inventory Management, Supply Chain/Warehouse Management, Project and Product
Lifecycle Management, Customer Relationship Management.
What are the advantages?
• Optimization of business processes
• Accurate and timely access to reliable information
• The ability to share information between all components of the organization.
• Elimination of unnecessary operations and data
• Reduction of time and costs of litigation
What are the disadvantages?
• The installation of the ERP system is costly
• The success depends on the skills and experience of the workforce
• Resistance in sharing internal information between departments may reduce the efficiency of the software.
• The systems can be difficult to use

Internet of Things
The Internet of things (IoT) is the extension of Internet
connectivity into physical devices and everyday
objects. Embedded with electronics, Internet
connectivity, and other forms of hardware (such as
sensors), these devices can communicate and
interact with others over the Internet, and they can be
remotely monitored and controlled.

Robotic Process Automation

RPA (Robotic Process Automation) involves using automation to do meaningful and repetitive activities that
form a business process. While automation just does it for repetitive tasks, RPA helps us do the same for a
business process. It is rapidly changing the way we work by improving the efficiency of the workforce, allowing
employees to focus on high-value tasks and managing complex and boring workflows.
Few sectors in which RPA applications are dominantly adopted:

BFSI Retail Telecom & IT Let’s looks at numbers!!

• Global RPA market size
Pharma and Healthcare Manufacturing valued at USD 357.5 in

• Expected CAGR of
Life-cycle of RPA: 31.1% in the forecast
•Business process analysis – The business process to be automated is analysed and the
period 2018-2025
requirements are framed.
•Bot Development – The automated workflows and tasks are developed by the developers.
•Testing – Quality assurance, detecting defects and fixing the bugs.
•Maintenance and Support Global market leaders
Cognitive Intelligence: One of the biggest constraints of RPA is that it requires structured • Blue Prism

Software Development Life Cycle

Software development life cycle (SDLC) is a series of

phases that provide a common understanding of the
software building process. How the software will be
realized and developed from the business
understanding and requirements elicitation phase to
convert these business ideas and requirements into
functions and features until its usage and operation to
achieve the business needs.

Waterfall Model
The Waterfall Model is a linear sequential flow. In which
progress is seen as flowing steadily downwards (like a
waterfall) through the phases of software
implementation. This means that any phase in the
development process begins only if the previous phase
is complete.

Software Development Life Cycle

Agile Model
It is based on iterative and incremental development,
where requirements and solutions evolve through
collaboration between cross-functional teams. This
model of software development is the most used in the
industry today. It can be used with any type of the
project, but it needs more engagement from the
customer and to be interactive. A sprint is a set period
of time during which specific work has to be completed
and made ready for review.

Prototyping Model
It refers to the activity of creating prototypes of
software applications, for example, incomplete
versions of the software program being developed.
Some types are:
• Throwaway prototyping
• Evolutionary prototyping
• Incremental prototyping
• Extreme prototyping:

Assignment

We hope you are excited to join Planet-I and that your stint here will offer you memories
that will last for a lifetime. But before you come, you’ll be required to develop use cases based on
any of the technologies discussed in this presentation. The use case could be any new business
idea related to these technologies that would generate revenue and make life better for its users.

Each use case should have the a)idea, b)objective and c)implementation plan.
Submissions would be evaluated on the basis of the following parameters - originality, creativity
and practicality. At least, one use case must be included in the submission.

Please stick to a presentation of not more than 3 slides(for a single use case). Send in your
submissions at infiniti@iimidr.ac.in and keep the subject as ‘FirstName_LastName_ITPrimer19’.
Winners will be duly rewarded.
