SUBDIVISION OF
LAND
SUBDIVISION OF LAND

CASE I:
________________________
Subdividing Line Passing Through A Known
Point
SUBDIVISION OF LAND
STEP 1: Draw a temporary subdividing line passing
thru the required point also but the other end is at
one end of the side of the traverse intersected by
the actual subdividing line.

STEP 2: Find the length and bearing of the temporary

subdividing line by considering it as the closing
side of the auxiliary traverse whose other sides are
same of the sides of the whole traverse.
SUBDIVISION OF LAND
STEP 3: Solve for the area of the auxiliary traverse by
DMD or DPD method.

STEP 4: Consider the triangle whose sides are

temporary subdividing line and the actual
subdividing line.

STEP 5: Solve for the area of the said triangle

considering the fact that its area is the difference of
the required area of one portion of the lot and that
of the auxiliary traverse.
SUBDIVISION OF LAND

STEP 6: Solve for the third side of the said triangle

using the formula.

STEP 7: Solve for the length of the subdividing line by

cosine law and for its bearing by sine law.
SUBDIVISION OF LAND

CASE II:
________________________
Subdivision Of Line Parallel To Two Lines Of
Trapezoidal Lot
SUBDIVISION OF LAND

FORMULA: x= mb2 + nb1

m+n
NOTE: x = length of the subdividing line

SAMPLE PROBLEMS :
SUBDIVISION OF LAND
PROBLEM 1:
Find the length of the subdividing line that will
divide the lot whose data is shown below into equal
parts if the subdividing line is passing thru point D.
LINE DISTANCE (m) BEARING
AB 300 S 37 30’ E
BC 400 S 43 15’ W
CD 250 N 73 00’ W
DE 350 N 12 45’ E
EA 277.96 N 65 40’ E
ED = 1577.96
SUBDIVISION OF LAND
SOLUTION:
SUBDIVISION OF LAND
PROBLEM 2:
A trapezoid piece of ground is to be divided into
two parts in the ratio of 2:3 by line parallel to the
parallel sides, the larger part to be adjacent to
smaller parallel side. The parallel sides are 575m and
437m long respectively, and the other sides are
300m and 350m long.
a. Find the length of the subdividing line.
b. Find the altitude of the trapezoid.
c. Find the area of each part.
