What is Air ?

• Air is the Earth's atmosphere.

• Air is a mixture of about 78% nitrogen,

21% oxygen, 0.9% argon, 0.04%
carbon dioxide, and very small
amounts of other gases. There is an
average of about 1% water vapor.
Air is vital to life on Earth.
* Humans and other animals breathe the oxygen in the air to survive.
* Plants need carbon dioxide to make their own food.
* Nitrogen in the air is important for plant growth.
* The molecules in the gases that make up air allow smells to
travel to our noses and sounds to travel to our ears.

We also use the air in other ways.

* To generate electricity with wind turbines
* Dry out our hair
* Tidy leaves.
