Introduction and background

 A garage door opener is a motorized device that opens and closes garage doors.

 Door control commands can be given by human operator, sensors and digital devices which connect
to transportation system control.

 The system described here incorporates the use of actuator to control the movement of the door
automatically.

 These garage doors come with different type of mechanism such as sliding, swing, folding, and
barrier door.

 The garage doors have to perform gyrations by open, auto reverse, stop, fully close and fully open.

5
Problem Statement
We have chosen this project to avoid following problems:

 To limits or avoid the use of wall switch.

 To avoid the manual opening of the garage door.

 To avoid the disturbance of neighbors by using horn at late night.

 To avoid any risk that could be happen on the dangerous roads.

 To avoid the loss of connection that is the source through which the sensor is
connected.

6
Objectives
 To introduce the automatic opening of garage door by using sensor.

 To open the garage door while sitting in the car.

 To install the power source properly to avoid any interruption.

 To make such system that is helpful for common people.

 Fast Response.

 Low power consumption.

 Efficient and low cost design

7
Scope of the project
 Opening and closing of the door will be controlled with remote control
which involved integration of signal receivers which will actuate the motor
and give instruction to open or to close.

 Lighting condition of the garage door can be detected by using sensor.

 For detecting any obstacles that comes along the path of the garage door, a
sensor will detect it and thus the door will remains open.

 Automatic garage door system is able to connect with the home alarm
security system.

 Level of security will be increased by introducing this type of system.

Literature Review
The first garage door openers were invented and developed by to US inventors
at the same time. The theory of the automatic mechanical garage door opener
is easy to understand at this level by using the infrared sensor that provide us
the path to open the door, hence the sensor active the Principle functioning of
motor and thus the door opens. When the door fully opens the motor stops running causing
the door to stop moving. For closing the garage door, after completing the opening cycle of
the door, the same technique will be used but in opposite direction
that causes the motor to run in opposite direction and hence the door become
closed [1].

Selection of the proper door mechanics is based on vehicle design and station configuration.
The geometry layout and the physical mechanism of the onboard door system should meet the
space requirement and users’ convenience [2].

The principle of active infrared sensors is based on the feature that the receiver detects the
reflected light from the emitter. Receivers are configured into a linear array so that the receiver
array is able to tell angle of arrival on each receiver. This creates a picture of moving objects
in the sensing area. A sliding door or sliding plug door is recommended for the door
mechanics. The choice between sliding or sliding plug will be based on the gap between the
edge of the vehicle floor and the platform edge.
A large gap can allow some space for door leafs to slide out [3]

Methodology
The methodology to achieve the above mentioned research objectives will
include the following steps:

 Step 1: Study and data collection from different sources.

 Step 2: Making foundation.
 Step 3: Mounting of different parts of system.
 Step 4: Power supply installation.
 Step 5: Motor selection (based on the system design).
 Step 6: Sensor connection.
 Step 7: Signal standard.
 Step 8: Hardware & Software selection.
 Step 9: Integration.
 Step 10: Testing.
 Step 11: Rework if any fault occurs in testing.
