Can creativity and knowledge

go hand in hand ?

CREATIVITY

Creativity is the ability to transcend traditional ways of thinking or acting, and to develop new and
original ideas, methods or objects.

• It’s an ability
creativity is a skill that is specific to an individual. For some people, it might seem to come naturally, but
it is something that anyone can improve at if they give it the time and effort.

• It transcends traditional ways of thinking or acting

Transcending means you’re going above and beyond. It’s recognizing the limitations of what already
exists, and trying to improve upon it.

• It develops new and original things

it’s about developing. If it’s an idea, you go out and do the research to prove it. If it’s a new process you
try and test it to see if it works. If it’s an object, you build it.
HOW CREATIVITY HELPS
KNOWLEDGE
if you’re great at acquiring knowledge (say, through reading or lectures or watching
videos on YouTube) and you have the ability to put that knowledge to use effectively.

 Having knowledge will benefit you by using your tools correctly in the process and it
will show that you knew what you were doing. For example, to create a presentation

Knowledge is the first step where you need to learn how to do those things. You
need to understand the technical part before starting on the fun project.eg- I am
taking a Digital Photography class and before I was able to start taking pictures, I had
to learn about the camera, how to use it, and what the different settings are. After I
learned all this and gained knowledge, I was able to create photographs and get
ideas of pictures I would like to take.
What’s more important - Creativity or Knowledge?
If you say knowledge…
• knowledge is power.
• knowledge helps us tackle obstacles.
• if you’re willing to admit you don’t know what you don’t know, then gaining more
knowledge is empowering and exciting.
But even with the world’s knowledge, if you don’t know how to apply the facts you
have, then you’re not going to be able to do much.
If you say creativity…
• Creativity finds a way to solve problems.
• Creativity knows how to discover knowledge and new things.
• Creativity harnesses curiosity and acts like a magnet to learning new things.
Knowledge is now doubling every months. That means that what we know today
may be vastly different or improved upon early next year.
Steve Jobs said, “Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask
creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty
because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed
obvious to them after a while.”

• Both are important, but when creating a team culture, we think creativity is more
important than knowledge. You can always acquire the knowledge you need, but
to implement, execute, and problem solve rapidly and effectively, then creativity
trumps knowledge.

• Knowledge, no doubt has a role to play. Without knowledge, creativity does not
have any substance to work with. Creativity puts together already available
information in a manner to come up with new solutions to new problems. Without
the 2 working in tandem, nothing new could have been created.
Imagination is the root of creativity, thus creativity becomes more important than knowledge.
