INFORMATIVE SPEECH

What is an Informative Speech? ?

-An Informative Speech is one that


informs the audience. However, as should
be clear, this general definition
demonstrates that there are many ways to
inform an audience.
INFORMATIVE SPEECH

Types of Informative Speech:


Definition Speech – Explains the meaning,
theory, or philosophy of a specific topic that
the audience likely does not know much
about.
INFORMATIVE SPEECH

Types of Informative Speech:


Demonstrate Speech – Explains how to do
something.
Explanatory Speech – Might give a
description of the state of a given topic.
INFORMATIVE SPEECH

Types of Informative Speech:


Descriptive speech – creates a vivid picture
in a person’s mind regarding an object,
person, animal, or place.
INFORMATIVE SPEECH

The speech must be 2 – 3 minutes long.

You must have significant visuals to


compliment your speech

You may use note cards only during


presentations but you may not read from them
DO’S AND DON’TS
 Do’s:
1. Consider your Audience
2. Organize the information in a way that makes
learning the information easiest.
3. Practice, practice, practice.
4. Get out from behind the podium and make eye
contact with your audience.
DO’S AND DON’TS
 Don’ts:

1. When you draft what you want to say, don’t write it our
word for word.

2. Don’t put into a speech information that you don’t know


backward and forward.

3. Don’t keep jumping back and forth through your slides.

4. Don’t fidget nervously in front of your audience.

Serves the interest of the audience.

 Possibility of misinterpretation, example
a four year old might not know the
purpose of law. The definition of same
words might be different for other
cultures.

 Possibility of complexity, depending on
audience (age, characteristic, and other
factors) the possibility of different
interpretations is high.

 Jargons, one of the mistakes of speech
writers is that they are writing the speech
the same way as they are writing essays.

during class.

2. Guest speaker presenting information to a group

 Informative Speech is used to deliver information,
knowledge and messages to us audience clearly.

 With the Informative Speech, we will be able to


understand a topic clearly and in an interesting way.

 It is required in almost all fields. You may be required


to share information to your subordinates and
managers.
