And Their Meaning

 A Beep Code is the audio signal given out by

a computer to announce the result of a short
diagnostic testing sequence the computer
performs when first powering up. (Power-On
Self Test or POST)
 In a computer, beep codes are used to give
signals or warnings to problems in a
computer during a POST.
 Different Beep Codes are used in different
brands of BIOS, but we’ll be studying the
common ones that occur in our computer.
 A computer doing no beep can mean that it
either has a non-compatible\functioning
Power Supply Unit (PSU) or it has a loose part,
but the PSU not functioning is mainly the
reason.
 To fix this you will need to check the Power
Supply Unit and try to balance the electricty
running through the different parts of the
computer. (Though I don’t recommend doing
this on your own. Ask someone with
extensive knowledge.)
 If the above instruction does not work, maybe
the PSU is not compatible with the computer.
 A single short beep in a computer would
mean that it is in a normal condition, and
there will be no need to worry about the
computer having hardware problems.
 A computer doing 3 short beeps would mean
that its RAM Modules may have been in
disarray or it ceased to function.
 The first thing to do is remove any extra RAM you
added to the computer before turning it on. Once the
RAM is removed, restart the computer and wait to see
whether it powers on normally. If it does, try re-
inserting the RAM and seeing whether you can install
it more securely in the computer. You can also try to
re-insert original RAM if the error occurs when you
haven't installed new memory. Try cleaning the
connection panels on the memory and on the
computer itself as well. If it is still not functioning
after the memory is cleaned and positioned properly,
you may need to purchase new memory or take your
computer to be repaired.
 When a computer does a single long beep
and a couple of short beeps it would mean
that a computer’s Graphics Card could be
missing, loosened or it is not compatible with
the processor.
 To fix this problem you will need to know the
specifications of the Graphics Card and CPU,
The Graphics Card may be too high for the
CPU to handle, if so try to upgrade the CPU.
 If the CPU is quite capable on running a high
end Graphics Card, the Graphics Card maybe
bad or outdated, try upgrading it.
 A repeated sequence of high and low pitched
beep pattern is an indication of some kind of
CPU or Motherboard problem, but its mainly
the Motherboard being outdated or not being
able to function.
 The first thing to do is to check if the CPU is
compatible with the Motherboard. If it is, the
Motherboard may have recieved damage if its
old.
 Try buying another Motherboard if the old
one is damaged, but if it is not then clean the
Motherboard and the other parts of the
computer.
 Dust may have gathered in the different parts
slowing down the computer. Cleaning the
computer parts twice a week is good enough.
 If the computer produces a repeated chain of
High Pitched beep it means that the CPU is
having a problem or its overheating. The
computer may have been doing work that is
overwhelming its capability to function.
 Turn off the computer, let it settle. Open the System
Unit and take off the Heatsink or CPU fan. After
removing, clean the blockage of dust and clogs on
the heatsink/CPU Fan. Now wipe off any excess
thermal paste that is settling on top of the CPU. Be
gentle when wiping off the thermal paste, the CPU
may be damaged if you use too much force. Then
take off the CPU make sure to hold it properly and
prevent from dropping it, It will damage the CPU.
Now carefully clean the CPU socket and the CPU itself.
After you have done cleaning it replace the CPU at the
socket. Then add a thin layer of thermal paste on the
CPU don’t put too much of the paste, it may cause
overheating problems again. Replace the
heatsink/CPU Fan, And you are done.
