Topics

• The topics given to me were

1. Sub station cleaning works and electrical testing.

2. GT Vibro Meter replacement.
3. GCV calibration and Burner valve stroke test.
What is a Sub Station?
A substation is a part of an electrical generation, transmission
and distribution system. Substations transform voltage from high to low or
reverse and perform several functions between the generating station and
consumer.
Cleaning works and electrical testing of
132KV sub-station
The activities which were carried out
through the annual preventive maintenance
of 132kv sub station are as follow;

 General cleaning of panels, CT, PT

boxes, CVT boxes, isolators and
insulators.
 Connection tightening.
 Connectors cleaning and refixing.
 Isolators spindle bearing checks.
 Isolator alignment check.
 Greasing of earthing switch
bearings.
 CVT oil level checks.
 CB gas pressure checks, oil level and
hydraulic press checks.
 Megger testing of earthing pit
resistance.
 Cleaning and painting of marshaling
kiosk.
Thermal camera detected faults
These faults were thermally detected as their temperature was higher than their
normal operating temperature.
1. Line isolator of blue phase on Daharki feeder temperature was 51 degree celsius
and its normal operating temperature was 15 degree celsius; so we opened the
line isolator connectors and performed cleaning and scrubbing on them to rectify
the fault.
2. Circuit breaker of Y phase line isolator connectors were cleaned due to the hot
spots observed on them.
Gas Turbine Generator Vibro Meter
Replacement
• The vibro meter is a device which sense and transmits the relative
vibration of a machine which is produces due to thrust.
• The previous vibro meter was replaced by the new one of better signal
transmitting characteristics and latest model.
Specifications
• This proximity system IQS 452 allows contactless measurement of the
relative displacement(vibration) of rotating generator shaft.
• Its performance monitoring module was VM600 which was mounted in
turbine supervisory control for continuous on-line protection and
condition monitoring of generators rotating machinery.
GCV calibration & Burner valve stroke test

• Gas control valve controls the gas regulated in the combustion chamber as
per load requirement. It is situated on the GT lube oil skid.
• It is given the signal from DCS in the form of 4 to 20 mA which is then
converted to gas opening valve through an (I to H) electrical to hydraulic
converter.
Burner Valve Stroke Test
The stroke test concluded that how much percentile the GCV valve will open
on the given current signal from distributed control system.

mA Valve open percentage

4mA 0%
8mA 25 %
12mA 50 %
16mA 75 %
20mA 100 %
