Kimberly A. Cabahug 6 Ways to Conserve Water 1. TURN OFF THE WATER. When brushing our teeth and washing our hair we somehow use water excessively because we tend to keep it running even if it’s not in use. 2. CHECK FOR LEAKS. Every now and then it happens that we get leaks in our bathroom or sinks and it’s best advised that we check and repair immediately because even small leaks could cause excessive amount of extra water usage and not to mention, the extra bill. 3. RAINWATER HARVESTING. These past few months it has undeniably been raining day-to-day in our country. Believe it or not, the rain could actually be put to use in terms of water conservation. It provides an alternative supply of water, reduces water bill and help maintain a green, healthy garden. 4. TRY USING FEWER PLATES AND CUPS. 5. RE-USE/RECYCLE WATER. You don’t have to put down the drain an already used/excess water because you could use it for another purpose like, watering a plant or your garden and in that way it wouldn’t go to waste. 6. TEACH YOUR KIDS. It’s important that every one in your household knows the importance of water conservation, especially the kids. It wouldn’t work if you do it alone while every one else is doing their own thing. 5 Ways to Attain Safe Water for Domestic Uses 1. BOILING. Boiling water is one of the surest and most reliable way to purify water, only if done correctly. It is one of the oldest method for purification and is still used all over the world today. 2. USE CHLORINE DROP. Chlorine can’t only kill bacteria’s but is also lightweight, affordable, and of easy access. But you have to wait for at least 30 minutes before you could drink the water and make sure to not put so much drops as it can be poisonous. 3. USE ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT. Looks similar to a small flashlight, handy and easy to use. It could kill the bacteria just by swishing it around in the water for a few minutes. However, it couldn’t filter the solid particles in the water. 4. PAPER/CLOTH FILTER. Simple and basic type of materials used as filtration unit. Mostly they are used as pre-filters to strain out larger particles but are not enough to filter the smaller, disease causing organisms. 5. USE SEDIMENTATION. When there’s nothing available to use for water filtration, large particles can be removed by letting the water settle for an hour or two. It will cause the heavier particles to sink to the bottom leaving the lighter one’s to float. You think our water supply is limitless? Well then, think again. Do not ever take water for granted. Starting today make a change, a good kind of change. Conserve water and make it safe for every one to benefit from. That is all. Thank you!
