INTRODUCTION
What is Wi-Vi ?
 Wi-Vi is one of the most modern technology which
modifies the Wi-Fi technology to make the concept of
wireless vision possible.

The main logic or idea is the tracking and manipulation of

reflected Wi-Fi signals.
HISTORY
 MIT researchers have developed a sort of x-ray vision
device that can detect motion behind walls or large objects.

 Wi-Vi was created by Dina Katabi, a professor in MIT’s.

 Wi-Vi was introduced in the year 2013.

PRINCIPLE
 It is based on the principle of RADAR and SONAR.

 RADAR is an object detection system which uses radio

waves to determine the range, altitude ,direction, or
speed of objects.

 SONAR is an sound navigation system which uses

sound propagation to navigate , communicate or
detect objects under or on the surface of the water.
What Can Wi-Vi do?
 Detect the Number of Moving Humans in a closed
Room.
 Determine the Relative Location of Moving Humans.
 Enable Communication through a Wall without
Carrying a Wireless Device.
 Identify Simple Gestures from Behind a Wall.
Wireless Vision Using Wi-Fi
 Wi-Fi signals easily penetrate through walls (low-
power Wi-Fi signals are used)

By the use of WiFi signals and MIMO communication,

a wireless vision device has been made captures the
human motion behind the wall or closed room.

 Through WiVi, WiFi can be extended to our senses

thereby allowing visualizing moving object through
closed doors and walls.
WORKING
 Wi-Vi works by sending Wi-Fi radio waves and measuring
the way they bounce back.

 It is similar to RADAR and SONAR.

 Wi-Vi transmits two Wi-Fi signals ,one of which is inverse

of other.

 When one hits a stationary object, the other cancels it out.

But because the way the signals are encoded, they don’t
cancel each other out for moving objects.
Wall is Static Disappears

People tend to move Detectable

The antenna used in Wi-Vi device is three, two for
transmitting and one for receiving .

 Device uses typically Wi-Fi hardware i.e. the

technology developed based on Wi-Fi device.
ADVANTAGES
 Wi-Vi can perform through wall imaging without
access to any device on the other side of the wall.

 It’s setup is Low-Cost and Low-Power.

 It extends human vision beyond the visible

electromagnetic range.

 Allows to detect objects in the dark or in smoke.

DISADVANTAGES
 Low quality of images.

 We cannot detect humans behind concrete walls

thicker than 8 inches.

 Short range of communication is only possible.

APPLICATIONS
 Monitoring situations (hospitals, malls ,hotels ,etc.)
 Emergency Situations.
 Personal Security.
 Disaster Recovery.
 Smart Sensing.
 Entertainment.
 Military Purpose.
Future Scope
 Wi-Vi could be built into Smart Phone or special
handheld device.

 Can be used in Search-and-rescue missions.

 Evolution of seeing human beings with denser

building material with longer range.
CONCLUSION
 Wi-Vi technology is the simplest evolution for
communicating.

 Rather than RADARS and old measures, it can be

afforded simply and cheaply.

 Could prove to be very powerful and effective device

for defence purposes.
