ELECTRICAL WIRING PLAN

ELECTRICAL WIRING
PLAN – any electrical working drawing consists
of lines, symbols, dimensions, and notations to
accurately convey an engineering’s design to the
workers, who install the electrical system on the job. A
plot plan showing the building’s location and outside
electrical wiring.
- is a graphical presentation of electrical
wiring connections to install in a particular house or
building. It indicates the position of electrical fixtures
such as convenience outlets, switches, lightings, door
bells, and others to be installed.
PARTS OF A WIRING PLAN
1.FLOOR PLAN/LAY OUT PLAN
- The floor plan of the building with the
layout plan of lighting and power outlets,
showing the following details:
1.1. location, type and rating or lighting
fixtures;
1.2. location of power outlets and their
ratings; and
1.3. outlets that belong to a branch
circuit.

3. RISER DIAGRAM- The riser diagram
shows these:
3.1 the characteristics of service
3.2 the size of service entrance conduit
and the number of size of wire used;
3.3 the fuse or circuit breaker sizes for
the main and branch circuits; and
3.4 the type and size of wires for each
branch circuit.

4. SCHEDULE OF LOAD - The schedule of
load gives the following information:
4.1 the number of branch circuits of the electrical
wiring system;
4.2 the number of lighting outlets and switches per
branch circuit;
4.3 the total wattage rating of the load per circuit;
4.4 the total current load per circuit ad size of wire
used; and
4.5 the computation for the total wattage and
current rating in each circuit.

describes the following details:
5.1 type or kind of service, single phase
or 2-wire or 3-wire and the voltage;
5.2 number of branch circuits and their
corresponding sizes; and
5.3 materials/supplies to be used by the
contractor and methods of wiring to be
applied.

7. TITLE BLOCK OR NAME PLATE- The
title block or name plate of the plan drawn on standard
size 100mm sheet indicating the following details:
7.1 name and location of the proposed installation
or project;
7.2 name and address of the owner;
7.3 title of sheet, sheet number and scale used;
7.4 printed name and signature of owner;
7.5 name, signature and dry seal of registered
engineer engaged by the owner to draw the plan; and
7.6 initial of the draftsman and dates when the
drawing was drawn.
TITLE BLOCK OR NAME PLATE
Before starting to sketch an
electrical wiring plan, the
following basic requirements
for each area or room in the
building should be
considered:
DINING AREA
The dining area and the rest
of the rooms should have at
least one lighting outlet with
a wall switch near the dining
table to provide direct
lighting to the area.
Lighting and power outlet
provision for a typical dining room
LIVING ROOM
The living room should be provided
with a general lighting system. The
ceiling or wall fixtures such as portable
lamps, may be installed, including two
or more split-receptacle power outlets
which should be controlled by a wall
switch. There should also be several
outlets to supply power for small
appliance loads.
Lighting and power outlet
provision for a typical living room
BED ROOM
A general illumination system should be
provided in this room. There should be
a wall switch-controlled outlet where
the appropriate lighting method is
installed. Convenience or power outlets
should also be provided on each side
and within 6 ft. of the center line of
each bed location.
Lighting and power outlet
provision for a typical bed room
BATHROOM
Lighting outlets to be installed in this
area should suit the method selected. A
single concentrated light source, either
on the ceiling or on the side wall,
should be provided. There should be an
outlet near the mirror, usually 3 to 5 ft.
above the floor.
Lighting and power outlet
provision for a typical bath room
KITCHEN
Outlets should be provided both for
general illumination and to provide light
in the work area. It is advisable to
install outlets. Special purpose outlets
should be provided for the cooking
range, washing machine and other
appliances.
Lighting and power outlet
provision for a typical kitchen
PORCH
Large or irregular shaped areas such as
the porch requires two or more lighting
outlets. A multiple wall switch control is
usually installed at entrances when the
porch serves as a passage between the
house and the garage. A special purpose
power outlet should be provided for
every 15 ft. wall along the porch or
breezeway.

The final design of a typical residential wiring
plan is shown below, indicating the service
entrance, power and lighting panel.
HOW TO MAKE SCHEDULE OF LOAD
BASED ON THE LAY OUT PLAN
Allowable Ampacities of Insulated Conductors Rated up to and including 200 volts,
60°C and 90 °C, not more than 3 current carrying conductors in raceway, cable or
earth(directly burried) based on ambient temperature of 30°C.
