Electro Magnetic Energy
 Electromagnetic energy
familiar forms: light and heat
other forms :
Radio waves, TV waves ,Microwave , X-rays, Infrared, Ultra-
violet, X-rays and gamma rays
 These are all types of radiation originating from the
electromagnetic force, which is responsible for all electrical and
magnetic phenomena.
 Electromagnetic waves do not require a medium through which
to move and can travel across empty space.
 All electromagnetic radiation traverses a vacuum at the same
velocity, that of light-namely, 3x108m/s(c).
 An electromagnetic pulse, also sometimes called a transient
electromagnetic disturbance, is a short burst of electromagnetic
energy.
 "electromagnetic pulse" is commonly abbreviated to the acronym
EMP

 Sometimes it is more convenient to view electromagnetic radiation
from a quantum-mechanical perspective, in which the
radiation, rather than consisting of waves, is composed of groups
or packets of energy, which are called photons. The energy E of a
photon is said to be quantized, or can only have specific values,
defined by the relationship
𝒉𝒄
E =hυ=
𝝀
 where h is a universal constant called Planck’s constant, which
has a value of 6.63x10-34 J-s, υ is the frequency and λ is the
wavelength of the electromagnetic radiation.
 Thus, photon energy is proportional to the frequency of the
radiation, or inversely proportional to the wavelength. Photon
energies are also included in the electromagnetic spectrum.
Photons incident on a material may be reflected, absorbed or
transmitted.
