experiencing depression.
4.Those having difficulty in
achieving success in athletics and

character disorder.
6.Those who are experiencing family
disruption and being reared in a
dysfunctional family.

HIV infections or AIDS

DRUGS
Drug
- A substance that causes a physical
or emotional change in a person.
Drug use
- taking a medicine properly in its
correct dosage.
Drug misuse
- using drugs improperly.
Drug substance abuse
-improper or unnecessary use of
chemical substance for nonmedical
purposes.
Drug Dependence
- Continuous or compelling desire to use a
drug even though it harms the body, mind
and relationships.
Tolerance
- A condition in which the body
becomes used to a substance and needs
more of it for an effect.
Withdrawal
-condition in which the body has adapted to
the constant presence of the drug and so it reacts
in unpleasant ways when drug dependent stop using
it.

A. Amphetamine
- a powerful stimulator of the central nervous
system.
- activates receptors in the brain and increases the
activity of a number of neurotransmitters.

DRUGS
-Forbidden by the law.
-They have no medical use and are very
dangerous when used and abused.

-Known as “upper”
-Are drugs that speed up the work
of the central nervous system.
- Stimulants are useful in treating many
medical conditions, including ADHD,
narcolepsy, asthma, obesity, and depression.
A. Cocaine
- looks like a fine, white, crystal powder.
- can use it for valid medical purposes, such as local
anesthesia for some surgeries.
B. Shabu
- known as
crystal meth and “poor man’s
cocaine”.
- is a white, odorless substance, in a
crystal formation or crystalline
powder.

-Known as “downers”
-Depress or slow down nerve
activity.
A. Barbiturates
- are medications used for
treating headaches,
insomnia, and seizures.
B. Tranquilizers
- these drugs have a calming effect and
eliminate both the physical and psychological
effects of anxiety or fear.

- relax muscles
- Relieve tension and worry
- Bring on sleep
- Drunken behavior

- Slow down heart rate and breathing rate
- Loss of appetite
- Reduce blood pressure
Hallucinogens
-are drugs that distort user’s
perception of their surroundings and
their own bodies.
-affect sensation, thinking, self-
awareness and emotion.
A. Marijuana
-refers to the dried leaves, flowers, stems, and
seeds from the
Cannabis sativa or
Cannabis indicaplant.
-affect reproductive system (long-
term use)

-Nausea
-Increased salivation and perspiration
-Impairs individual ability to judge distances and slows reaction
time

induce sleep.

-is the dried milky exudate obtained from the
unripe seed pods of the opium poppy plant
(Papaver somniferum)
B. Morphine
- is used to
help relieve moderate to
severe pain.
-It works in the brain to
change how your body feels
and responds to pain.
C. Codeine
- is a prescription pain
medication used to treat mild to
moderate pain.
D. Heroin
-can be a white
or brown powder, or a
black sticky

dependence, and addiction to drugs.
