REHABILITATION CENTRE FOR RAPE AND
SEXUAL VIOLENCE SURVIVORS
To provide shelter, police desk, legal, medical and counselling services,
psychological rehabilitation and economic rehabilitation to the victims of
sexual violence under one roof integrated with a 24 hour helpline makes the
Centre easily APPROACHABLE in terms of seeking assistance

INTRODUCTION
Sexual violence is a serious public – health and human rights problem with both short-term and long-term
consequences on women’s physical, mental, and sexual and reproductive health. Crimes against women
gets reported every two minutes in India. As many as 2.24 million such crimes were reported over the past
decade. Rape is the fourth most common crime against women in India. The national conviction rate
in India for offences of the Indian Penal Code is around 46%. This tends to vary state by state. The state with
the highest conviction rate is Kerala, at about 84%, while the one with the lowest rate is Bihar, at around
10%. Throughout 2016, national conviction rate of Indian Penal Code crimes are 46.8%, with 596,078
convicted and 678,270 acquitted/discharged, and also 1,060,724 Convicted under SLL crimes and 226,546
Acquitted or discharged, make conviction rate 82.4% under SLL crimes, making a combined conviction rate
64.67% in India during 2016. More than 34000 rape cases reported in the year 2016. On average, a woman
is raped every 15 minutes.

responsive to the actions, behavioral pattern and psychology of the users thus creating a USER-
RESPONSIVE design.

effective interaction between the counselor and the victim.
10. To design the spaces considering the safety of the victims by way of constant supervision by authorities
or by other fellow survivors.
11. To create spaces that would channelize their emotions in order to bring positivity in their lives and
surroundings.

NEED AND IMPORATANCE OF THE PROJECT
