 Objective of this project is to introduce a less time consuming and a
secured attendance system.
 The basic function of this project is to Alert parents through sms at
which students report to college/school and leave from college.
 The conventional method of taking attendance by calling names or signing on
paper is very time consuming and insecure, hence inefficient.
 Therefore, RFID-based student attendance system is required to assist the
faculty and the lecturer for this time-consuming process.
 Based on the verification of student identification, the RFID tag can be
embedded in the ID card of the individual
 First to activate a new session (hour) teacher swipes his/her RFID tag this
marks a new attendance session and also it sends an sms to students that
“teacher has arrived or class is started” etc.
 In a given time students can swipe once to increment their attendance.
 The RFID module operates in 125 KHz range.
The System provides more accurate identification.

Hard copy paper work of attendance sheets is reduced.

Proxy attendance can be caught.

Data can be stored long time as compared to attendance sheets.

Quick and Rapid: Identifies candidates in seconds

Keep the parents informed about the student’s performance via SMS
alerts.
 The RFID tag will be taken in the range of the RFID reader.

 The RFID reader senses the signal within 10 cm of range and extracts
its unique serial number.

 That serial number is passed to microcontroller which matches the code

to the correct person and increments the attendance of the particular
person.

 After that, information of student gets displayed on LCD display.

 The attendance of the students is maintained and their status is updated

to the parents through GSM.
 If someone fails to take his RFID tag within the range of the reader in
given time he is marked as absent, and an SMS is sent to his parents,
saying that the “xxxx student is absent today”.

 The record of the attendance will be stored in a permanent memory

(EEPROM) which can be extracted at the end of semester.

 Arduino UNO: Arduino Uno is a
microcontroller board based on
the ATmega328P (datasheet).
 It has 14 digital input/output pins
(of which 6 can be used as PWM
outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16
MHz quartz crystal, a USB
connection, a power jack, an
ICSP header and a reset button.
 It contains everything needed to
support the microcontroller
 simply connect it to a computer
with a USB cable or power it with
an AC-to-DC adapter or a 9v
battery to get started, though it
accepts voltages between 7 and 20
volts.
 RFID Tags: RFID Tag is an IC chip that
has unique hexadecimal or electronic
product code (EPC) contained in it.
 RFID tags are classified into two types:
 Active RFID Tags are battery powered.
i.e. They do not require any external
source , they have their own in-built
battery. It can transmit high
frequencies so it can be detectable to a
longer range.
 Passive RFID Tags do not contain a
battery i.e. they don’t have any battery
source built in them. Passive tags can
transmit information over shorter
distances (typically 10 feet or less) than
active tags.
 An RFID reader: is basically a
radio frequency (RF) transmitter
and receiver, controlled by a
microprocessor or digital signal
processor.
 The reader, using an attached
antenna, captures data from tags,
then passes the data to the controller
for processing.
 The reader decodes the data
encoded in the tags integrated circuit
(silicon chip) and the data is passed
to the microcontroller for process.
 GSM Modem: A GSM (Global
System for Mobile Communications)
modem is a specialized type of modem
which accepts a SIM card.
 It operates over a signature to a
mobile operator, just like a mobile
phone.
 This can be a true modem device
with a serial, USB or Bluetooth
connection, or it can be a mobile phone
that provides GSM modem capabilities.
 In this project we will use GSM
SIM900A or SIM900T.
 LCD Display:
 The display support 4X20
characters, which means, the
LCD can support 4 lines on the
display and each line can
display up to 20 characters.
 Output is displayed on LCD
Display.
