Abstract:

This project is aimed to design a system which saves electricity by detecting visitors
that enter/exit a room through counter and display of the count of number visitors visited
at a place by using IR sensor and also as per the count of the visitors switching the
appliances. It is an effective solution to avoid wastage of electricity and keep a count of
the number of visitors/students entering into the class rooms and the updated count will
be displayed on the display unit - LCD [Liquid Crystal Display]. The count is taken by
using two IR sensors at the entry and exit. In both cases the count will be updated on
the LCD. Depending upon the count the lights will be automatically turned ON/OFF. For
first five people load 1 will ON, for next five people load 2 will ON and loads will be ON
according to count of people. If count decreases then lights will be OFF automatically.
INTRODUCTION TO PROJECT
• WORKING

IR sensor has both transmitter and receiver pair. IR transmitter continuously

emits the IR rays and the receiver gets activated when the IR rays falls on it.
The IR sensor pair is fixed at the entrance and exit of the particular place the
transmitter transmits the rays, the emitted IR rays fall on the IR receiver. The
receivers at entrance and exit are interfaced to the controller [ARDUINO].

Whenever the sensor [IR receiver] at the entrance is activated the count
corresponding to the number of people inside the room will be increased and
in opposite case if IR receiver at the exit is activated and count will be
decreased will be displayed on LCD.

In both cases the count will be updated on the LCD. Depending upon the
count the lights will be automatically turned ON/OFF. For first five people load
1 will ON, for next five people load 2 will ON and loads will be ON according to
count of people. If count decreases then lights will be OFF automatically.

CONCLUSION

• Energy Saving System is not limited to any particular application, it can be used any
where in process industries with little modifications in software coding according to the
requirements.
• Hence, the system is designed meeting the requirements for an Automatic Energy
Saving System.
FUTURE SCOPE

• Our next generation may develop this energy saving system with wireless network. All the
sensor units are connected to micro controller with the wires.

• This can be developed with various sensors like temperature, humidity etc. We can also
extend the working by using IR sensors for specific area in rooms for the ON/OFF of
appliances.

• This system can also be applicable to various loads like pressure, force and etc. by
increasing the number of ports of the micro controller.
