EXPRESSING OF QUALITY, VERB,

ADVERB AND ADJECTIVE

1. VERB

• Verbs are words that show an action (sing), occurrence (develop), or state of
being (exist). Almost every sentence requires a verb. The basic form of a verb
is known as its infinitive. The forms call, love, break, and go are all infinitives.
• Example :
• He sent me a postcard.
• Cheryl often sneezes while cleaning house.
2. ADVERB
Adverb of Time
Adverbs are words that usually modify—that is, they limit or restrict the
meaning of verbs . They may also modify adjectives, other adverbs, phrases, or
even entire sentences
Example :
• Let’s begin to work now. [Mari kita mulai bekerja sekarang.]
• Yusron always comes late. [Yusron selalu datang terlambat.]
• The postman comes daily. [Tukang post datang setiap hari.]
Adverb of Place
Example :
• My boss is out. [Bos saya sedang keluar.]
• Stay here. [Diam di sini.]
• She always looks down. [Dia selalu melihat ke bawah.]
Adverb of Frequency
Example :
• I often forget her name. [Saya sering lupa namanya.]
• She seldom visits her mother. [Dia jarang mengunjungi ibunya.]
• I have told you twice. [Saya sudah memberitahumu dua kali.]
Adverb of certainty
Example :
• It will probably rain tonight. [Mungkin akan hujan malam ini.]
• I will certainly help you. [Saya pasti akan menolong Anda.]
• Yudi is obviously very clever. [Yudi sudah jelas sangat pintar.]

Adverb of Degree
Example :
• He came rather late. [Dia datang agak terlambat.]
• She is very beautiful. [Dia sangat cantik.]
• Farhat reads quite clearly. [Farhat membaca dengan cukup jelas.]
• Dio sings pretty well. [Dhani menyanyi dengan cukup baik.]
Interrogative adverb
Example:
• Where are you going tonight? [Ke mana Anda akan pergi malam ini?]
• How long will you stay in Makassar? [Berapa lama Anda akan tinggal di Makassar?]

Conjunction adverb
Example :
• Life is hard. However, life can be fun.
• The market is very difficult these days. Consequently, we need to focus on what works
best for our customers.
• My friend Mark doesn’t enjoy school. Still, he’s working hard at getting good grades.
C. ADJECTIVE
Adjective is one type of word that is used to provide a description of the
nature of an object that is located before the noun. The task of adjective, ie to
modify the noun or possessive to be more interesting or specific, such as the boy
is handsome. There are eight (8) types of Adjective, one of which is Adjective of
Quality.
Adjective of Quality is a trait that demonstrates the quality or quality of an
object. It usually gives a noun characteristic that is based on the question ' What
is it? ' (' What is it? '), ' What kind of? ' (' What kind? '). One of the examples
that we often encounter: An old man, A good boy, A beautiful girl.
Adjective essentially expresses the qualities or characteristics of a noun, such as a
person, animal, place or object. The Adjective of Quality is also known as a descriptive
Adjective because of its nature which describes the type of noun. As for the various
words of adjective of quality :
• Colors : red, blue, green, etc
• Feelings : happy, sad, angry, etc
• Shapes : round, rectangular, triangle, etc
• Sizes : thin, large, small, medium etc
• Touch : sticky, tasty, delicious, etc
• Tone : loving, clever, sarcastic, etc
• Origin: French, asian, latin, Mongolian, etc
• Age : old, young, ancient, etc
• Qualities : good, bad, beautiful, etc
• Time : monthly, daily, weekly, etc
USE OF ADJECTIVE OF QUALITY

1. Declare the same comparison or similarity to specific characteristics


Pattern: N + V + as + adjective of quality + as + noun
Example:
• I am as young as Catherine (I am young like Catherine)
• These laptops are as expensive as those computers (these laptops are as expensive
as those computers)
• Note: Avoid using the word ' to ', ' than ', ' like ' in sentences.
• Example:
• Wrong: I am as young than her
• Right: I am as young as her
2. Describe the characteristics or opinions of a noun. The pattern or placement of these
adjectives consists of:
Adjectives are used before nouns or noun.
Example: A young woman.
Used in conjunction with noun and verb such as seem, sound, to be, feel, appear, smell
Example:
• It seems quiet here (seems here deserted)
• It smells delicious (smells good)

3. Use after word nothing, anything, something, everything, everybody, somebody, and so on
Example:
• Nothing activity here (nothing strange here)
• Everybody happy for a reasons (everyone is happy for a reason)
4. When using 2 (two) or 3 (three) adjective from the same group we can use the
additional word ' and '
Example:
• That big and small clock is an antique (big and small hours it's antiques)
• There are red and green peppers in refrigerator (there are red and green peppers
in the refrigerator)
When using the 3 (three)/more adjective of the same group, we must use a comma
(,) as well as ' and ' for the last two adjective
Example:
• There are small, medium and large size of jacket in here (here there are small,
medium and large jackets)
• This is a brief explanation of the Adjective of Quality.
