ABSTRACT
Wind power now represents a major and growing source of renewable energy.
A wind turbine is a complex electromechanical system. It is important to know how to
control it, particularly if high performance and good efficiency are needed.
We also need to know how to work on them, and then carry out further research and
development on their functionality.
There are two types of wind turbines (Horizontal-axis &Vertical-axis). In our thesis we
have only focused on the horizontal-axis type.
OVERVIEW
RRB Vestas started in 1987, with the main objective of
producing world class Wind Electric Generators (WEGs).
It’s aim is to deliver reliable , high quality products.
RRB energy was the first company to introduce pitch regulated
WEGs in India.
INTRODUCTION
Wind – atmospheric air in motion.

Wind has become an energy source.

About 2% of the sunlight that falls on the earth is transformed to wind

energy.

Wind provides around 19% of the world’s electricity.

Working principle:

Principle:
The energy in the wind turns three blades around a rotor. The rotor is
connected to the main shaft, which spins a generator to create electricity.
Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy in the wind into mechanical
power.
WORKING OF WIND POWER PLANT:
Wind makes blades turn.
Blades turn a shaft.
Gearbox Connected to shaft
increase rotational speed.
Generator converts rotational
speed into a electricity.
Output voltage of 11kv is
generated.
Its step up to 33kv by using
step up transformer.
Supplied to a substation then
to grid.
POWER CURVE
FEATUER OF V47

• Cut in wind speed – 5m/s • Nacelle cover – fibre glass

• Cut out wind speed – 25m/s • No of blades – 3
• Survival wind speed – 70m/s • Diameter – 47mts
• Rated power output – 500KW • Power regulation – pitch regulated
• Voltage – 690V • Yaw system – slewing system
• Tower – tubular
• Height – 162Smtrs
• Sections - 3
MERITS & DEMERITS OF WIND POWER PLANT
MERITS:
Energy for Free of cost.
Operation cost.
Pollution Free & Clean.
Sustainable and renewable resources.
Environmental friendly.
It reduce fossil fuel consumption.
It provide power for remote locations.
DEMERITS
Installation cost is high
Wind turbine pose a threat to wildlife
It create noise pollution
CONCLUSION
• Even though the cost of wind power has decreased in the past 10 years, the
technology requires a higher initial investment than fossil-fuelled solutions for
power supply.
• Major challenge to using wind as a source of power is that the wind does not
always blow when electricity is needed.
• Wind turbines can be built in rural areas, thus benefiting the economy there.
• Wind energy is one of the lowest-priced renewable energy technologies
available today.
• It has been estimated that wind power could supply one third of the world’s
electricity by 2050.
