ABSTRACT
• The automobiles play an important role in the
transport system. The study has employed a model to
estimate vehicular PM2.5 and PM10 emissions in
urban area by calculating vehicles travel on the city
roads including registered vehicles in the city. The
increase in vehicles leads to changing the landscape
with important atmospheric consequences.The study
based on the registered vehicle population in the
srikakulam city. The index values for sulphur dioxide
and nitrogen dioxide are below the standards
prescribed in these areas. At some places they appear
to be slightly high and people with asthma and other
respiratory diseases.
• Use of electrostatic precipitation at industry levels and
diesel particulate filters at vehicle levels may reduce
the particulate matter values.Alternate fuel may be
another means of reducing particulate matter. The air
quality index values are to high for particulate matter
in srikakulam circle are categorized as unhealthy and
residents in the surroundings are advised to avoid
prolonged exertion. The particulate matter values are
high and categorized as very unhealthy and
hazardous.Air quality index values are mainly based on
the number of registered vehicles in a city
INTRODUCTION
• The term particulate matter has been used for
describing air quality.rules for the PM2.5 and
PM10 size categories were established.PM10
refers to particles with aerodynamics diameters
smaller than 10micro meters,at which value the
sampler has 50%sampling efficiency.PM2.5 refers
to particles with diameters smaller than
2.5micrometers.The increase along with
meterological conditions and population growth
influence more to air pollution.
• Urban people tend to have their own private
vehicles indicating their dependency on fossil
fuels transportation system.Transportation
activities may represent the increase in people
economic activity.air pollution consist of many
gaseous and particulate components and varies
in chemical composition.The particulate matter
consist of a mixture of very small particles of
dust,pollen,ash,soot,metals etc….
• Particulate matter is major concern in indian
cities due to 60 out of 62 metropolitian cities
have exceed world health organization.
OBJECTIVES
• High spatial resolution emissions :performing
a detailed common emission inventory down
to 1km*1km.
• The main objective of the study is to find out
the emissions from the vehicles and their
impacts on the environment and health.
• Health effects of air pollution
• Assessment and quantification of health
impacts
SCOPE
Environmental engineering is the application of
science and engineering principles to the
environment.
.Environmental engineering to include the
development of sustainable processes.
The influence of meterological parameters on
pm10 and pm2.5 concentrations was
analysed and possible pollution sources were
identified
RESULT
• Particulate matter mortality risks to both
sensitive and non sensitive individuals were
reported.Ientify the the impact of particulate
matter on people suffering from
cardiovascular diseases. The NO2 levels are lies
in the range of 15-35,and these areas area
categorized as good and the elderly and
children are the groups most at risk.
CONCLUSIONS
• The specific fuel consumption for 10% is lower
compared to diesel.
• The mechanical efficiency to be improved.
• The air –fuel ratio to be improved.
• The amount of particulate matter having size of
PM2.5&PM10 are low for 10% petroluem
compared to other fuels.
• 10% fuels are preferable for safer
environmental,better health and better
performance.
