INTRODUCTION
 The traffic engineering studies carried out for collecting traffic
data are also called traffic surveys.

 It includes the study of regulation for traffic, characteristics of

traffic, controlling and guiding measures for traffic, flow of
traffic at junction, parking area, traffic survey, engineering
elements of road system affecting traffic operation

 For improvement of traffic facilities in existing town .

 Used for design of geometric features.

OBJECTIVES OF TRAFFIC
STUDY

 The objective of our seminar is know traffic volume

flow of urban cities.

 The survey was carried out at Anjali cross road. We use

manual counting method to know the traffic flow.
SCOPE OF WORK
 To analyse facility available on the road.

 To suggest measures to increase traffic flow capacity of

road.

 To analyse road accident and suggest suitable measures

to reduce accident.

 To collect information for geometric design for

highway.

 To know the nature of present traffic and forecast traffic

LITERATURE REVIEW
Research paper 1
 Oseph Azeta, Imhade P. Okokpujie, Enesi Y. Salawu
and Kennedy O. Okokpujie did the analytical Study of a
Road Traffic Conflict at the T-Junction of University of
Benin main gate.

 The resulting One Way Anova was used to calculate the

daily difference in the volume for the 6weeks for all
approaches and it was found that there are no significant
differences in the flow of traffic for each approach for
both morning and afternoon peak hour.
Research paper- 2

 Sharukh Marfani, Dharmkumar Shihora, Chirag

Kanthariya, Harshal Kansara Studied About Traffic
Improvement For Urban Road Intersection At Surat.

 This paper presents improvement of intersection at

Simada Naka Junction, Surat. The analysis is based on
video graphic method, data has been collected of peak
hours at the selected intersection.
Research paper- 3
 B. Suresh, N. Venkat Rao and Suraj Baraik studies on
urban road traffic congestion of hyderabad.

 Passage of heavy vehicle on narrow roads, Accidents

and Improper lane management are identified and
remedial measures to minimize the traffic congestion
were discussed briefly on the study area of Hyderabad.
Research paper-4
 Veethika Gomasta†*, Mohit Malviya†, Abhishek Singh
and Saleem Akhtar Studies of Jyoti Talkies Square and
Vallabh Bhawan Roundabout at Bhopal.

 In this research paper, an attempt has been made to

suggest measures for improving and easing traffic flow
at two of the intersections of Bhopal. The signal timings
at “Jyoti talkies square” have been redesigned for
afternoon peak flow. Improvement by widening of road
is recommended. Introduction of Signalized rotary is
suggested.
 TRAFFIC VOLUME STUDY:
The number of vehicle crossing a section of road per unit time at
any selected period is called traffic volume.
METHODS OF TRAFFIC
VOLUME STUDIES:
 Manual Counting Method
-Direct method.
- Indirect method

 Automatic counting method.

-Pneumatic tube
-Inductive loop
-Weigh-in-Motion Sensor
-Video camera
MANUAL COUNTS:
 The employees of field team collects the necessary
information on the prescribed record sheets at the
selected points of roadway.
MECHANICAL COUNTS:
 It can record the total number of vehicles crossing a
section of the road in a desired period.

 The working may be by the effect of impulses caused by

traffic movements on a pneumatic hose placed across the
roadway.
INDUCTIVE LOOP PNEUMATIC TUBE

VIEDO CAMERA
FIELD WORK
 We have done a survey on manual counting short
duration count at peak period is conducted. For planning
and design purpose, long duration count is conducted.
For our study purpose we collected volume data for
15min.

CONCLUSION

 The results indicate the traffic volume study. We

determined the vehicle proportion of these roads
and also to understand how tidal flow occurs. The
survey data which we collect can be used for further
survey to increase number of lanes, traffic control
and management and signal designing.
