Standard Operational Procedures
Bathe The Patient In Bed
A. Definition
Nursing actions
implement by nurse
starting from the chest,
stomach, upper limb,
lower limb, to maintain
bodily cleanliness patient
who are unable to take a
shower independtly or
need help from others
using water and soap.
B. Aim
1. Clean the skin and body odor.
2. Give a sense of comfort
3. Stimulates blood circulation
4. Relax muscles
5. Prevents skin infections
6. Educate patients in personal hygiene

D. Nurse Preparation

1. Preparation of tools and materials


2. Preparation of Nursing
3. Provide an explanation to the patient
about the intent and purpose of the
action
4. Preparation of environmental patient
5. Position the patient as needed
E. Tools Preparation
• 2 Waskom filled with warm water
• 2 Washcloths
• Soap
• 2 Towels
• 1 Set of clothes
• Blanket
• Perlak
• Gloves
• Trolley
• Tup clothes
• Urinal chamber pot
• Cotton worm
• If necessary, telon oil and powder
F. Ways Of Working
1) Doors, windows or curtains closed, if used scherm if
necessary
2) Blankets and pillows moved from the bed. If needed, a
pillow is used as needed.
3) Bring the tools closer
4) Ask if the patient wants a bowel movement before bathing
5) The nurse stands on the left or right side of the patient
6) Washing clients hands
7) Tell the patient that the upper garment must be opened,
then the exposed partis covered with a bath blanket or
coth covering
8) The patient is ready to be bathed in sequence as follow
9) Wash your face
10) Washing the arms
11) Washing the chest and stomach
12) Washing your back
13) Washing the feet
14) Wash the groin and genetalia
Wash your face
Steps :
a) Spread the towel under the head
b) Clean the patients eye using only water.
Use one side of the washcloth to clean
one eye.
c) Ask whether the patient wants to use
soap or not.
d) Clean the patients face, ears and neck
using a washcloth and dry.
Wash the arms
steps :
a) Lower the blanket
b) Raise both hands, place the towel over
the patients chest and spread left and
right so that both hands can be placed
on the towel.
c) Wet and soap the patients arm starting
from the known side of the nurse, then
rinse and dry. Do the same thing on the
another arm
Washing the chest and stomach
steps:
a) Take off the patients bottom clothes and
lower the blanket to the pubic area
b) Raise both hands of the patient, lift the
towel on the patients
c) Moisten the patients armpit, chest and
stomach then rinse and dry with a towel
Washing your back
steps :
a) Tilt the patient left or right
b) Spread the towel under your back to th
buttocks
c) Wet and soap the back then rinse and
dry. Raise the towel
d) Position the patient opposite and do the
same thing
e) Lie on your back and wear patient upper
clothes neatly.
Washing the feet
steps :
a) Remove the patiens feet from the nurse
side from under the shower blanket
b) Spread the towel under the feet and
bend the patients knee
c) Wet soap the patients feet then rinse
and dry.
d) Do the same thing on the foot next to
the nurse.
Wash the groin area and genetalia
steps :
a) Spread the towel under the buttocks
b) Clean the thigh and genetal area by wetting,
soaking, rinsing, and drying.
c) Help the patient use the lower garment..
Raise the towel
d) Replace bath blankets with patients blankets
e) Tidy up the bed again and position the
patient to be comfortable
f) Clean the tools, clothes and loom that has
ben used or dirty
g) Washing hands
h) Document the action
