Geokrete Technology - Overview

Sets by dissolution of metal oxide and

reaction with inorganic polymers
Functional additives can be
incorporated easily
 Controlling the rate of reaction- Key to
form good binding
 Complies to ASTM C 1600
 Non Hazardous – All the components
are inorganic

4
Binder setting mechanism

Dissolution of Metal oxides in water

Reaction between metal cations

and phosphate,silicate anions

Gelation

Solidification and Hardening

5
Geokrete- Binder Properties

 Quick setting – Sets in 30 minutes

 Zero shrinkage, Water proof
 Slight expansion
 Not affected by sulfates or chlorides

Geokrete – Mechanical Properties

• Compressive strength of Geokrete was tested as per ASTM C109

• 50 mm cubes were made using Geokrete with a water/powder ratio of 0.13

• Cubes were cured in air before testing for its compressive strength at various ages

 Bridge deck overlays
 Emergency road repairs
 Concrete Column repairs
 Grouting and anchoring
 Concrete resurfacing
 Crack filling
 Tile Grouts

13
Geokrete - Ideal binder for concrete repair

 Contains no carbon chains- No UV degradation

 Low co-efficient of thermal expansion – No pop outs
 High early strengths- Quick return to service
 Forms tenacious bond with concrete- Sustained repairs
 Usable in all weather- Sets even at – 15 Degrees centigrade
 Just add water at site- Easy to use
 Very low water permeability - Prevents further corrosion
 Can be extended with aggregates - Economical

14
Conclusion

 Geokrete – Clinker free Binder based on Inorganic

Polymer Technology exhibits properties ideally suited
for concrete repair and rehabilitation

 It can fill the gap between cements and organic

polymers

 These are substantially more environment friendly .
