INTRODUCTION

• Mosquitoes are the well-known deadly

insects that can cause million deaths in a
certain country..
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
• The researchers produced this study in order to compare the
effectiveness of Nerium oleander leaf extract and Papaya leaf
extract in terms of exterminating the household mosquito
• According to Radcliffes’ IPM textbook website, insecticides are
the agents of chemical or biological origin that control insects.
Insecticides can be made as natural or man-made that are
applied to target pests in a myriad formulations and delivery
systems.
• Ketut Putra’s researched about the effectiveness of papaya leaf
in terms of exterminating mosquitoes. The papaya leaves
contains some chemical factors that can exterminate any kind of
mosquitoes. These are considered as a natural agent, safe to
use and easily attained.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK

• The researchers used the theory of natural and

biological control by William R. Thompson (1956)
• It was stated in this theory that creating a natural
control could affect other living organisms from
multiplying greatly. Artificial control is attributable to
human intervention; natural control, to the non-human
agencies acting in nature.

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY
• This study was to investigate the Potential
and Ability of Nerium Oleander and Papaya
Leaf extract in Larvicidal activity and the
effectiveness in experimenting Larvae of
Mosquito.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
• To determine the average time the mosquito larvae were
exterminated when exposed to the treatment of leaf
extracts with concentration of 55% and 95% respectively
of Nerium oleander and Papaya.
• To know the significant difference between between
Nerium oleander and Papaya leaf extract in terms of
effectiveness in exterminating mosquito larvae.
• To compare the span of time the mosquito larvae were
annihilated by the two plants mentioned above using
Mortality Test.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
 HYPOTHESES

Null Hypothesis : There is no significant difference between the

Nerium oleander and Carica papaya leaf extract in terms of
effectiveness in controlling the growth of mosquitoes.
Alternative Hypothesis: There is a significant difference
between the Nerium oleander and papaya leaf extract in terms
of controlling the growth of mosquitoes.
RESEARCH DESIGN
The researchers used the Quasi-experimental as the research
design of the study. Quasi-experimental is the design that
involves the manipulation of independent variable and may
include comparison of groups, and in this study, the
researchers are aiming to compare the effectiveness of two
larvicides Nerium oleander and Carica papaya, and for that
reason the researchers chose this as a research design.
This design could greatly help the researchers to
determine the needed data in order to discover the significant
difference of effectiveness between Nerium oleander leaf and
Papaya leaf extract in eliminating the growth of household
mosquitoes.
MATERIALS
PROCEDURE
• The cultured mosquito larvae of the researchers were going to
be collected.
• The larvae gather ranges from 2 nd to 4th instar larvae of
mosquito were utilized to know the efficiency of the regardless
the stage of larvae.
• Unsullied leaves of Nerium oleander and Papaya were collected
and used for the experiments.
• Using the mortar and pestle the leaves of Nerium oleander and
Carica Papaya are going to be pulvurized and the cheesecloth
would be the strainer in order to obtain the extract with the use
of right amount of water.
STATISTICAL TREATMENT
• The t-test (test difference between two variable) will use to determine if there
is a significant difference between the two experiments of the leaf extracts of
Nerium Oleander and Papaya in the experimental group that will exterminate
the mosquito exterminate.

• The researchers will use Mortality Rate to get the effectiveness of Nerium
Oleander leaf extract and Papaya leaf extract in larvicidal activity. The
formula use in this study show below:
