Accuracy of Content: Is the content timely, accurate and direct? Is this text likely to
advance a young child’s world knowledge?
Authority of Authorship: What are the qualifications of the author on this topic? Were
collaborators consulted?
Accessibility to the Age Group (birth to age 8): While the text does not have to appeal
to the entire age range, does the primary audience fall within the range?
idelity to Genre: Does the text employ features of informational text? If other genres
are also present, such as in informational poetry, is the primary purpose to inform
about the natural or social world? Is this a clear example of informational text?
Appeal to Children of Age Group: Is the text on a topic of interest to young children? Is
the design manageable for a young child? Do the features support young children’s
interaction with the text? Do the features assist young children in comprehending the
content?
What informational text IS NOT:
A biography
A procedural text (such as cook books or
craft directions)
A joke book
A text with characters
Journalistic Text is written originally by a writer or
journalist with a unique style and construction
level. It's main goal is to give informative articles to
the readers. News and information are examples of
journalistic text. Luminiţa Roşca mentioned that
the constituents of the journalistic text are the
following: coherence, cohesion, intentionality,
informative, acceptability, situational,
intertextuality
Examples are:
Articles written in newspaper ad and
magazine. Informative articles written on
websites.
LITERARY TEXT
• A variety of spoken, written and visual texts that promote
use of imagination, thought or emotional response in the
reader or listener.
Examples:
Stories, books, novel, fairytales, myths, legends etc.
Characteristics of a literary text
• Predominance of the poetic function over the referential
function because it is not limited to communicating; it is
about influencing the reader’s mood making him live
emotions and feelings. The author shares his experiences
with the reader, recreating them in him.
• It is absolutely ambiguous; it is this feature where the
multiple interpretation possibilities reside.
• It is obviously connotative; it produces many possibilities of
interpretation depending on the literary and personal
context of the reader. Connotation is the essence of literary
language.
• Richness of poetic resources such as literary figures. It
is plentiful in images.
• Syntax (arrangement of words and phrases to create
well-formed sentences in a language) is more flexible.
The order of the elements may vary.
• Vocabulary is precise and irreplaceable. A word
cannot be replaced by another one because the
expressive power changes even if the idea remains
the same.
• The message creates a reality of its own, different
from the surrounding reality.
• It is symbolic.
