Ways on How to Protect Oneself from
Heat

Here are few safety tips to keep

adults and children safe in the sun:
Cover Up

Wear brimmed hats,

sunglasses, and fabrics
that are thin, light-
colored, and breathable
and cover the areas of
your body that get the
most sun.
Limit your time in the sun
The hottest part of the day is
between 11:00 am and 4:00

knees, and feet.
Reapply sunscreen often

Use lots of it, apply it early

in the day, and reapply
often. Don’t forget to find
one with a high SPF, which
means SPF 15 or higher with
“broad-spectrum”
protection.
Prepare for the heat

This includes listening

to regular weather
forecasts and finding
ways to keep cool in
advance.
Pay close attention to how you (and
your children) feel

Keep an eye out for heat

illness symptoms like dizziness,
fainting, nausea, headache,
rapid breathing, extreme
thirst, decreased urination,
and even changes in behavior.
Stay Hydrated

This is an especially
important step. Drink
plenty of cool liquids,
particularly water, before
you even feel thirsty.
Staying regularly active is important for the health
of your spine, muscle, and nervous system.
Following these tips when you’re out in the heat
and sun will help you stay safe!
The best home remedies for
burns
Mild burns typically take
around a week or two to
completely heal and usually
don’t cause scarring. The goal
of burn treatment is to reduce
pain, prevent infections, and
heal the skin faster.
1. Cool water
The first thing you should
do when you get a minor
burn is run cool (not cold)
water over the burn area
for about 20 minutes.
Then wash the burned
area with mild soap and
water.
2. Cool compresses
A cool compress or clean wet
cloth placed over the burn area
helps relieve pain and swelling.
You can apply the compress in
5 to 15 - minute intervals.
Try not to use excessively cold
compresses because they may
irritate the burn more.
3. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is often touted as the
“burn plant.” Aloe is anti-
inflammatory, promotes
circulation, and inhibits the
growth of bacteria.
Apply a layer of pure gel taken
from the leaf of an aloe vera
plant directly to the affected
area.
4. Honey
Apart from its delicious
taste, honey may help heal
a minor burn when applied
topically. Honey is an anti-
inflammatory and naturally
anti-bacterial and anti-
fungal.
5. Don’t pop your
blisters
As tempting as it may be, leave
your blisters alone. Bursting a
blister, yourself can lead to
infection. If you’re worried about
blisters that have formed due to
your burn, see a medical
professional.

Do you know what is a magnet?

Keep In Mind!
Remember This!
Heat always passes from a warmer object to a
cooler object until all objects are the same
temperature.
Conduction is how heat travels between
objects that are touching. Conduction travels
fastest through solids, but liquids and gases
can also conduct heat. Some materials, like
metal, can conduct heat very quickly, while
other materials (like plastic or wood) conduct
heat very slowly.
Keep In Mind!
Convection is how heat travels through fluids –
liquids and gases. Hot fluids rise up, while cold
fluids sink down. This up-and-down motion is
called a convection current. Convection
current spreads the heat in a circular, up-and-
down pattern.
Radiation is how heat travels through empty
space. Radiation does NOT require molecules
to travel through. Any time you can feel heat
without touching it, you are experiencing
radiation.

Magnets are attracted to three types of
metals. These metals are made of nickel,
iron, and cobalt.
