 What is computer
A computer is an electronic device which is used to solve
different problems according to the set of instructions given to
it….
A computer can except data processes data into useful
information and store it for later use..

The word computer is derived from COMPUTE that means to

CALCULATE… computer can be used as a calculating
machine to produce result at a very high speed…
However calculation is not only the use of computer it can be
used for different purposes . P rople used computer to solve
different problems quickly and easily and it has changed the
way of life.....
 Advantages of
computer
1)Speed
Computer process data at a very high speed . It is much
faster than human being .A computer can performe billions
of calculations in a second ….
For example the process of mutiplying 567 and 876 can
take one or two minutes if it is performed by human beings .
However computer can performe billions of such
calculations within a second ...
Computer speed is measured in MEGA HERTZ or GEGA
HERTZ…
2) communication

Most computer today have the capabability of communicating

with other computers…
We can connect two or more computers by a communication
device such as modem .. These computers can share data
instructions and informations …..The connected computers are
called network. We can communicate with other people in the
world using network like internet...

3)Processing
A computer can procrss the given instruction it can
performe different types of processing like addition ,
subtraction, mutiplication and division
It can also performe logical functions like comparing two
numbers to decide which one is bigger etc....
4)storage
Computer can store a large amount of data permanantly people
can use this data at any time .....
The user can store any type of data in a computer ....
The storage capacity of computer is incresing rapidly and can
store thousand of books easily...
5)ACCURACY
Accuray means that computer provide results without any
error computer can process large amount of data and
produce result accuratly ..... The result can be wrong only if
the data given to the computer is not correct suppose the
average mark of the class are required .... There can be a
chance of mistake in the result if it is performed by human
being However a computer can produce this result very
accuratly and quickly.....

• CPU stands for central processing unit..... It
is the brain of the computer.. It consider as
the most important part of the computer also
called processor and a computer cannot
work without CPU........
• CPU is located on the mother board it
carries out most of the work of the
computer.....CPU performe all operations on
data according to the given instructions ....
