Perpetuation of life
What is perpetuation to you?
Perpetuation of life
* Perpetuation comes from the word
perpetuate which means for something to
continue.the continuation or preservation of
a situation.

what are cells?
About Cells

﹡ The cell is the basic unit of structure

and function in living things
﹡ Cells are usually microscopic, but
range from the size of a bacteria to
the size of an unfertilized ostrich egg.
﹡ Living things contain one or more
cells
○ Protozoans contain a single cell
○ Humans contain billions of cells
Classification of plants

Anatomy of flowers
Anatomy of flowers

10
11
Four main parts of a plants
Flowers
-attract insects to help the plant reproduce.part of the
plant that has the reproductive organs.
Stems
-connects the roots to the leaves. Suport branches and
leaves transport (moves) water, minerals and food.
Leaf
-Major site of photosynthesis.captures light energy and
converts to chemical energy to provide food.
Roots
-Vital anchors, keep plants upright, absorbs water, stores
foods (sugar)
12
How do plants reproduce?

13
Can you differentiate sexual
reproduction from asexual
reproduction?

14
How do plants reproduce?

Plant reproduce in two very different ways:

 Sexual reproduction:involves the production of
seeds and fruits from specialized cells of two
plants.
 Asexual or vegetative reproduction:occurs when
a ‘parent’ plant grow new plants from its
roots,stems or leaves.

15
Traditional types of vegetative
reproduction
 Cutting
 Layering
 Grafting
 Budding
 Tissue culture

16
What are animals? give two
specific examples.

17
﹡ Animals—complex, multicellular organisms
equipped with nervous systems and the ability
to pursue or capture their food—can be divided
into six broad categories. In this article, you'll
discover the six main animal groups, ranging
from the simplest (invertebrates) to the most
complex (mammals).

18
Give atleast 2 classification of
animals

19
6 Classification of animals
Invertebrates

The first animals to .

evolve, as far back as a
billion years
ago, invertebrates are
characterized by their
lack of backbones and
internal skeletons, as
well as their relatively
simple anatomy and
behavior, at least as
compared to most
vertebrates.
21
Fish

The first true

vertebrates on
earth, Fish evolved
from invertebrate
ancestors about 500
million years ago, and
have dominated the
world's oceans, lakes,
and rivers ever since.

22
Amphibians
﹡ Amphibians are
characterized by their
semi-aquatic lifestyles
(they have to stay near
bodies of water, both to
maintain the moisture
of their skin and to lay
their eggs), and today
they are among the
most endangered
animals on earth.

23
reptiles
﹡ Reptiles are
characterized by their
cold-blooded
metabolisms—they
fuel themselves up by
exposure to the sun—
their scaly skin, and
their leathery eggs,
which, unlike
amphibians, they can
lay some distance
away from bodies of
water.
24
birds
﹡ Birds are characterized
by their coats of
feathers, their warm-
blooded metabolisms,
their memorable songs
(at least in certain
species), and their
ability to adapt to a
wide range of habitats—
witness the ostriches of
the Australian plains
and the penguins of the
Antarctic coastline.
25
mammals
﹡ Mammals are
characterized by their
hair or fur (which all
species possess during
some stage of their life
cycles), the milk with
which they suckle their
young, and their warm-
blooded metabolisms,
which, as with birds,
allows them to inhabit a
wide range of habitats,
ranging from deserts to
oceans to arctic tundra.
26
.
﹡ How do animals reproduce?

27
Two types of reproduction of animals:

 Sexual reproduction

 Asexual reproduction

28
Sexual reproduction:
 Sexual reproduction occurs when female reproductive
cells are merged with male reproductive cells to form a
new animal that is a genetic combination of the parent
animals.

29
Asexual reproduction:
﹡ Asexual reproduction
﹡ Produces an identical genetic copy of the parent
animals intead of merging the genes of two
parents.

﹡ Asexual reproduction includes:

﹡ Budding
﹡ Fragmentation
﹡ Regeneration
