INTRODUCTION
 WHAT IS SOLID WASTE ?
Solid Waste are unwanted or unusable materials. Solid Waste is any
substance which is in form of and is discarded after primary use, or is
worthless, defective and of no use.

Examples of solid waste include following material when discarded :

 Scrap metals
 Latex paint
 Furniture and toys
 Garbage
 Plastics and paper
 left over food
 SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT.

 SolidWastemanagementis the collection, transport, processing

or disposal, managing and monitoring of waste materials.

 Due to population growth, industrialization, urbanization and

economic growth, a trend of significant increase in Municipal
Solid Waste (MSW) generation has been recorded in bhilai.

 Generally, in Bhilai, MSW is disposed of in low-lying areas

without taking proper precautions or operational controls.
Therefore, municipal solid waste management (MSWM) is
one of the major environmental problem.
 The management of MSW is going through a critical phase,
due to the unavailability of suitable facilities to treat and
dispose of the larger amounts of MSW generated daily.

 Adverse impact on all components of the environment and

human health occurs due to unscientific disposal of MSW.

 So the proper management of solid waste is very much

important for healthy environment
OBJECTIVE AND SCOPE
 For the protection of environment through effective
waste management techniques.
 To protect health, well being and environment.
 To prevent pollution.
 To reduce and reuse of waste.
 safe disposal of waste.
 To minimize the production of waste.
 To create awareness among the people about the
impact of waste.
 To maintain sustainable development and Ecosystem.
 Encourage waste to energy development.
 Ensure and promote proper solid waste management.
LITERATURE REVIEW
 This study was is designed to study the management and
recycling of solid waste in residential area of Bhilai steel
plant (BSP).
 The system of solid waste disposal in Bhilai is inefficient and
ineffective.
 Garbage collection services are not available in the
countryside, while in urban areas rubbish accumulates on
roads and streets, in vacant plots, and on hillsides.
 The dire situation the district faces can be gauged from the
fact that even with collection services operating at full
capacity, an estimated 40% of the waste generated in urban
areas remains uncollected each day.
 So our aim is to study the management of solid waste
generated from residential area of BSP.
METHODOLOGY
 Bhilai nagar nigam is responisible for proper waste
management of residential area of bsp.
 Workers are firstly divided under different groups and then a
particular area is alloted to each group for the collection and
maintenance of the solid waste of the residential area.
 Collected waste is transproted and listout with same material
for the recycling and disposal.
 In the process of method of collection of solid waste material
,that one is very good step to clean the city or garbege free
city.
METHOD OF DISPOSAL.
 Dumping
 Controlled tipping or sanitary landfill
 Incineration
 Composting
 Manure pits
 Burial
CONCEPT OF 3R.

 REDUCE:
The concept behind first R is thatyou should Limit the number of
purchases that you make in the first place .
so ,for exampe you might limit your household to a single computer
 REUSE:
 The concept behind the 2 R reuse is that you should reuse items as much
as possible before replacing them.
for example it generally makes more environental sense to update your
computer rather than get ride of it and by a new one
 RECYCLE:
 The concept behind the 3 R recycle is that should insure that items or
their component are put to some new purpose as much as possible .
CONCLUSION
 With an exponentially increasing population, it is even more
important to be considerate about how well individual take
care of the planet.
 Land is limited, resources are limited, and the health of the
plant can only be hurt to a limited extent. As more and more
waste is generated yearly, it is evident that this increasing
trend is unacceptable in the long run. Landfill and recycling
can only temporarily mitigate the immediate consequences of
this large waste production
 If less waste is generated in the first place, the challenge of
finding enviromentally feasible ways of disposing of waste
will be much easier.
