Introduction
 The use of Calcined Clay to replace part of the clinker in
cement is the most successful strategy to reduce CO2
emissions in the global cement industry.
 The only type of material available in the quantities
needed to meet demand is clay containing kaolinite,
which can be calcined to produce an effective
Supplementary Cementious Material (SCM).

LITERATURE REVIEW
Mechanical properties and durability  The cement industry is one of
performance of concretes with the major emitters of
Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) anthropogenic carbon dioxide
Yuvaraj Dhandapani,T. Sakthivel, Manu into the atmosphere,
Santhanam, Ravindra Gettu, accounting for approximately
Radhakrishna G. Pillai
5–8% of the total carbon
dioxide emissions.
 The results indicate the
superiority of LC3 binder over
other binders in producing
durable concrete, especially in
a chloride laden environment.

CONT….
Influence of cement  This study investigates the effect of
replacement by limestone a new type of blended pozzolan on
calcined clay pozzolan on the the hydration, mechanical and
durability performance of cement. A
engineering properties of
blend of limestone calcined clay
mortar and concrete pozzolan was produced by grinding
Anuj Parashar: calcined clay and limestone in a
Geetika Mishra ratio of 2:1 with 2% gypsum. Blends
with cement replacement level of
0,10,15,20,30 and 50% using LCCP
were cast.
 Concretes made with LC3 binder
shows comparable strength
development characteristics with
OPC and better strength
development than conventional
concrete mixes.

5
CONT….
 This paper reviews work carried
Metakaolin and calcined clays out on the use of MK as a partial
as pozzolans for concrete pozzolanic replacement for
cement in mortar and concrete
B.B Sabir, S Wild, J Bai
and in the containment of
hazardous wastes.
 The literature demonstrates that
MK is an effective pozzolan
which causes great improvement
in the pore structure and hence
the resistance of the concrete to
the action of harmful solutions.
