WAR MEMORIAL

INTRODUCTION
• The word “memorial” is an object or element which serves as a focus for memory of something,
usually a person or an event. Popular forms of memorials include art elements like sculptures,
statues, fountains, parks.
• Memorial architecture and art works, has the ability to transform
words and thoughts, capture emotions and preserving memories
into a tangible and buildable forms.

JUSTIFICATION OF TOPIC
• The need for this project is to personified the pride in a built form and to
pay the tribute to the militants for their brave efforts who sacrifice their
lives for the nation. Because the memorial architecture must have strong
artistic appeal to influence the visitor’s emotions to realize the role of
education reform, so the emotional expression of the memorial is to be
magnificent in terms of space layout and architecture.
Aim
To design a war memorial as an architectural input to define, promote and glorify the
aesthetics of remembrance and to make the structure live.
OBJECTIVES
1. To study object and shape to define human pattern in terms
of internal and external spaces to make the structure live.
2. To study various materials, colours, textures, landscape
patterns to create the feel of space.
3. To design the structure incorporating the emotions of people

4. To create a gathering space for people on large scale.
5. To provide the city with a dynamic space that blends into the
progressive culture catering temporary needs for
infrastructures for various expositions.

SCOPE & LIMITATION


The memorial shall function as a self-sufficient entity to Understand the remembrance of
militants in built form. It shall be a campus consisting of various transitional spaces and
built structures with all their textures and meanings as a whole. The structure will serve
as a combined memorial and museum for all the three forces (armed, naval and air
forces).
PARAMETERS FOR CITY SELECTION

The city choosen for the memorial is


Hyderabad as it is a proposed site and has
a historical background of the wars.
The deccan
wars, bijapur
history, Maratha
warriors make
the city more
remarkable.
CASE STUDIES
• JANG-E-AZADI MEMORIAL, KARTARPUR, PUNJAB.
The sprawling 25-acre campus of the memorial-cum-museum is
very prominently located on the Jalandhar-Amritsar stretch of
National Highway-1 at Kartarpur. The campus consist of
auditorium, library, research & seminar halls, movie hall & open air
theater. The memorial is a perfect blend of built forms and open
spaces including different material and textures which gives an
architectural importance to the structure.
• IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM, LONDON.

The museum’s collection includes archives of personal and


official document, photographs, video material, films, oral
history recordings and extensive library , art collection and
examples of military vehicles and aircrafts, equipments and
other artifacts.
The museum was established in 1917 as a combined
museum and noted as world’s finest museum ever built. The
structure was made by foster partners.
The structure consist of three galleries and a central atrium to
showcase the artifacts and consist of an outdoor obelisk as a
token to pay tribute to the militants who sacrifice their life for
their country.
