What is Pop

Art?
Pop Art is a modern art
movement, which uses the
imagery, styles, and themes of
advertising, mass media, and
popular culture.
Pop Art is an art form that
reflected a return to material
realities of peoples’ everyday
life. It actually means the
return to popular culture, thus
the name “pop.”
Emerging in the mid 1950s
in Britain and late 1950s in
America, pop art reached its
peak in the 1960s.
Pop art is widely interpreted
as a reaction to the then-
dominant ideas of abstract
expressionism.
The term Pop-Art was
invented by British
curator Lawrence
Alloway in 1955, to
describe a new form
of "Popular" art - a
movement
characterized by the
imagery of
consumerism and
popular culture
