Nicanor Abelardo

• was a Filipino composer known for his kundiman songs,


especially before the second World war.
• He was credited for bringing the kundiman to the level of art
that bloomed during the twentieth century.

• Among his works are:

Felipe de Leon
• Was a composer, conductor and teacher.
• A nationalist and traditional composer whose
compositions are in varied genres; hymns, marches,
band music, chamber music, orchestra,
symphonies, poems and overtures, operas,
sarswelas and kundiman.

• Was a composer, conductor, teacher and violinist, who was born in
Quiapo Manila.
• He was entitled as the “ Dean of Filipino Composers.”
• He was called as the “ Debussy” of the Phil. For Impressionism music
themes.
• National Artist for Music in the Phil. 1973.

• He wrote over 500 musical compositions, including “Hatinggabi” and “Awit ni


Maria Clara,” and taught some of the country’s musical icons like Lucresia
Kasilag and Felipe de Leon.
Ryan Cayabyab
• A teacher, composer, arranger , conductor, pianist, singer,
producer, and musical director.
• As a traditional composer, his musical expertise was seen
through his varied compositions of different genres like folk song,
kundiman, religious, jazz, musical play and original Pilipino music
(OPM)
• He established a musical school, the Ryan Cayabyab Music
Studio and manage the groups like Smokey Mountain, 14k and
Ryan Cayabyab singers.
• Currently he is the executive director of Philpop MusicFest
Foundation Inc.
• His musical skills were recognized both locally and internationally
and received varied awards.
